Soundtracks

So, yesterday evening I drove Beryl into work after more work on her. She's now quieter, smoother, warmer, and faster than ever before.

On the drive home on NJ's Route 3 at rush hour I was cruising at 70 mph and listening to The Dambusters March. It was the perfect soundtrack for battling with BMW's in evening traffic.

So, I guess the question is... What's your soundtrack for certain traffic situations.

Supertramp- "take the long way home"
Led Z - Immigrant song , Stairwayway to Heaven
Can go for ever with those .
What BMW's ? -just a Rover P6 bonnet in the front of me

I once overtook a long line of VW beetles on the motorway that had been to some beetlemeet somewhere with Ride of the Valkyries on the radio :D

@GTV8 N NJ is a little crowded compared to NZ I think :)

I love the idea of overtaking a line of Beetles with Ride of the Valkyries playing!

My daughter put together a mix for me the other day with AC/DC, Queen, Creedence, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin,
Motorhead, and U2 which is my default sat-in-traffic music where it's wound up loud and all the windows are open so the few that
can't see a lifted Landy with a huge bull-bar will hear something and have a look for where it's coming from before defaulting to
courteous and moving aside......

Three and a half years since I got my P6 back on the road, and I still haven't got around to fitting a car audio system. However, when I'm driving my mind is always hearing music, often whatever I'm trying to learn on my tenor sax at the time. Driving around town these last few weeks I would've been listening to Introducing Wayne Shorter from 1959, Dynasty by Jackie and René Mclean from the mid '80s, and I dare say a few old Bowie classics too. Diamond Dogs, maybe Loving The Alien.

On a bleak winters day like today tales of vanoccupanther by midlake or wind and Wuthering by genesis. Something about oboe and woodwind that suits the scenery and the feel of those days.

Depends on my mood, but I usually like to listen to Pink Floyd, DSOM, Wall, Final Cut, Division bell and the like :)

Sometimes - Led Zeppelin, Skynyrd, Frampton, and even Showaddywaddy and Shania Twain :p

General driving albums for me would be:
Forge and flagon - Skinny Lister
The Liberty of Norton Folgate - Madness
Love this giant - St. Vincent and David Bryne
A good selection of classical stuff too. Depends on mood, traffic and driving style. The rover I generally have no music on and just enjoy the noises she makes, yep, even though she's a four cylinder.

David Bowie ,Life on Mars or Geane Geanie ,from the same era as the car ,always puts a smile on my face whilst cruising the mean streets of St Evenage

Sadly I'm without a P6 at the moment but in my last one ('72 P6B Auto) I used to listen to film and TV soundtracks a fair old bit - The Long Good Friday, Get Carter, The Sweeney, The Professionals, The Persuaders and The Protectors etc, plus several home made compilations a mate of mine did for me containing tons of long forgotten library / instrumental tracks from the '70s... instant time warp stuff.

Yes - I've got The Persuaders theme too on my iPhone which I play through a Bose Mini Soundlink perched on the dashboard. Also enjoy Toto tracks - Africa in particular. Peter Frampton good - basically anything rocky from the 70s. The original radio still works and I have it tuned to Gold which just plays classic hits from the 60s, 70ss and 80s (a bit repetitively) which does for me.
