Apparently I will need this spacer to use a long nose crank in my 3.9 with a std harmonic balancer - anybody know where to get one, or detailed dimensions please? The engine no indicates its a long nose unit.
thanks.

Hi JP,

I had to have one fitted onto my 4.6 crankshaft to allow the use of the P6B pulley+harmonic balancer. I don't have the dimensions but you could purchase one from any Range Rover parts place I would imagine. You can see one in this link where it is specifically mentioned.

Ron,

So far no luck finding a reference to the part except the original on Rimmers. still looking.

Is this the right item ?
Crankshaft Spacer - LR012879SPACER - Genuine | Rimmer Bros
The note says 'Goes behind pulley' - does that mean behind the balancer, or between the pulley and the balancer? I guess checking pulley line up with water pump and alternator would indicate which.

I thought it went in front of the pulley/harmonic balancer. The crankshaft nose is longer, so my way of thinking is that without it, the bolt when tightened will not make contact with the pulley/damper. The spacer eliminates this problem. In answer to your question, I do not know if that spacer is the right part. Give Ward at Graeme Cooper Automotive a call.

Revisited the Des Hammill book on crank noses. He shows 3 types - original short with short keyway, short nose with long keyway, and long nose with long keyway. rimmers say that short nose ran up to (in 38D series) 27330. Mine is 27473, so should be long nose, but there is only 8-10mm between end of key and end of nose, so I think its a short nose.....so I shouldnt need the spacer. Only time will tell I guess, but it would be useful to know the dimensions of the spacer just in case.

I don't know if yours is the same but I made one to fit a 3.5 timing cover to my 4.6 block/crank - the drawing shows it's 1.8" outside diameter and 1 3/8" long. There's a hole bored at one end, 1.38" internal diameter and 3/4" deep. The other end is bored out to 11/16" internal diameter into the larger bore with a chamfer on the outside to take the sharp edge off. The pulley goes on first, then the spacer goes over the bit of crankshaft sticking out.
I didn't do this but just made a spacer 1.8" o/d, 1.38" i/d and 3/4" long and a 0.625" thick washer (with a chamfer on one side of the o/d) drilled with an 11/16" hole because it was easier to make.

thanks for this! As above , I dont think I need one now I know short nose is 70mm long, long is 90mm. At least now we know what will work.
