Steering wheel removal

Now I've got a functioning car again, I'm looking at moving the steering wheel, so it's "level" in the straight ahead position, right sides about 20 past, left 10 to. Loosened off the nut but no way does it seem to want to move, any suggestions? It's a PAS wheel.

Ta,

Mick

PAS wheels are less robust than the standard wheel, so you can bend them more easily. Remove the shakeproof washer, screw the nut back on leaving about 1/8" clearance, set the seat so you can hold the rim at the spokes keeping your arms straight and pull backwards using your legs against the footwell while alternately pulling on one side of the wheel then the other. If it really starts bending you'll have to make a puller.

I have the same problem. Wheel's on wonky but the car drives straight. Couldn't get mine to come off either.

There are probably reasons not to do this, but I've had success using Harvey's method while a helper hits the centre of the column with a punch and lump hammer.

Cheers, all, I'll go and have a go. Your solution sounds a little extreme, Willy!

Fingers crossed!

Mick

we just to use the "nut loosened but still on and then alternatively thump the left and right side of the rim near the spokes with the palms of your hands" methods, get the timing right and it sets up a lot of viobes and should shake more or less any cars wheel loose eventually, shouldn't damage anything either.

Thanks for the further suggestion, didn't move AT ALL during first attempt. Will give it a whirl during the weeekend, weather not supposed to be too good

Mick

Suggestion of keeping the nut on is worthy. That way you avoid the wheel coming off at speed and hitting you in the chops (speaks from painful experience)
