Steering wheel removel

Hi guys , please excuse the apparent 'ignorance' but I thought it best to refer to someone who is more familiar with the job I have to do :
I need to get to the somewhat rust flecked indicator/horn switch and also the flasher switch on my P6 3500 1971 vehicle ..rhd
So , I need to remove the steering wheel .. now the manual stats REMOVE THE PLASTIC ROVER MOTIF FROM THE STEERING WHEEL CENTRE by levering it out Yes , but it looks a somewhat 'flimsy' unit , so do I lever from the 'long end' or lever from the sides.... reluctant to try this method without some prior knowledge as it is so flimsy .. Help .
I am hoping that after I have removed the steering wheel it will be easy to remove the necessary switches BUT, if anyone knows of any potential 'minefield' ahead ,please feel free to advise me

Thanks folks.
Just to mention (in case there are varying types of the central Rover motif)this motif is oblong

That applies to the optional PAS steering wheel with the round badge, the normal wheel with the wide badge is held on by screws that go in from the back.

Yep, don't lever the plastic centre, you'll crack it, remove the two screws at the rear.

Loosen the central nut but leave it on the end of the thread before you pull the wheel!

Back , again folks... reference the removal of the 3500 steering wheel .
Thank you all so much , I have taken note of all your super valuable comments , so will be 'well clued up' when the job happens.

BUT, situation is that I have recently undergone a 'double hernia' operation (not fun , but going all ok) as such cannot drive or undertake any sort of job at the moment (not even on my lovely 3500 'Lady In Blue') so I am asking a friend to travel over to my donor car and remove the wheel and consequently the flasher and the indicator switches ..... BUT being as I do not have access to the car at this moment and not having the manual nearby .. could you guys advise me of what tools required ie. (1)size of socket needed for the large nut on steering column.
(2) would a set of 'pullers ' be require ?.
(3)any other 'special' tools
. just so that I can sent my friend over to the job with the correct tools .
Sorry about the strange request , but just cannot get out and about to sort the info myself .
Again , thanks for your input .
Pat

1) I think it's 11/16"
2) Never needed a puller on the ones I've done.
3) Nope all very much standard tools.

Thank you so much... that really has been helpfulw Corsican Blue .. do we ever learn !! thank you
Pat

Then I have a serious problem... My wheel is solidly attached to the car, to the point that beating it with a copper buggering stick left me winded and the wheel stubbornly in place.
Closest I've had was one where I used a combination of heat on the hub followed by using an inverted canned air can so the liquid nitrogen rapidly cools things. That and rocking the rim by having my hands at 3 and 9 o'clock and pulling and pushing alternating.

I tried to remove my power steering wheel the other day and it just refused to budge. I took the nut off, removed the washer, put the nut back on a few threads to stop the wheel removing my teeth, then got my knees under it and gave it plenty of pressure. The arms stated to bend so I stopped. Lucklily it is fairly easy to get a three legged puller on the power steering type, so that's what I did.

It would be more difficult to get a puller on the non power wheel, but a bit of ingenuity and a couple of tough brackets should do it.
