Strong price for a P6B

As the classic car scene is getting more and more popular for money laundry purposes, i would not be too surpised if someone would eventually turn up and pay the full price.

I find this forum unusual in one respect.
Most other forums I have been on for enthusiasts of a particular car, are always delighted to see good prices being asked for a car.
They feel is in everyone’s interest to see cars fetching good money.
On this forum, people seem more interested in running down the value of vehicles, which I just don’t understand.
Yes, the price being asked for this car is ridiculously high.
But we all know that the P6 is a much undervalued classic.
They should be fetching a lot more than they generally do for a vehicle of this quality.
I don’t see it being to anybody’s advantage to scoff when we see cars being advertised at decent money. If prices go up, surely that is good for anybody who owns a P6?
Don’t get me wrong. This dealer is asking way over the money, even if it only has 14,000 miles on the clock.
But don’t let’s shoot ourselves in the foot by deriding anyone who asks decent money for a decent car - I’ve seen that happen time and again on here. They’re worth it!

Asking that kind of money is one thing, getting it is something else altogether.
This dealer loves his prices. Personally, I think his name is cockney rhyming slang.
Ahhhh so what rhymes with "Graeme Hunt".....silly old punt.... Hmmmm love it, me thinks it would make a good parts car too, I would just swap it for mine and drive until something falls off... he he he

You said out loud what Ive been thinking.
Look at the price a rumpty Cortina , Marina etc gets. Now whats your P6 worth.

Remember that it is really the relative value to the others that counts most, not the absolute one.
I would be happy to see the value of classic Rovers to increase compared to say... Alfas, but i am afraid these days everything is going up, and some unjustifiably so (certainly not Rovers).

It's not just more cars survive and stay on the road. If prices go up, then restoration becomes more viable, this ensures parts and services remain available. It will mean more components are re-manufactured if necessary.

The other side of this is that if the value of P6s do go up, 1/. Spares go up as well, and make maintaining them more expensive, and 2/. They become nickable

Saying that I have just managed to get a very good insurance value for mine - £16,500. I know that's not the value to sell at, but nice to know a figure :) :)

Saw this car in person at the NEC. It is very nice.
It was next to a fixed head E type at £135k and really did hold up so well in that company, so much so that I could not see another 100k in the Jag.

Why not 30k or more for a car, which has such a low mileage and if it´s in a very good condition ?
Just saw a local private app for a Alfa Bertone 1300, completely rotten, for 18 tEUR. Ok, that´s really bullshit, but I know, this guy will sell it for around 12-15 tEUR. There are many other cars underrated, a friend brought a nice Fiat Sport Coupe 1966 or 67, 1st series from Italy, the Lampredi engine with a 5-speed, very fine, for not even 8 tEUR.
So, keep your prices up, it should be a target for a community.
And, I do not agree with higher spare prices etc.
Spares for my former 280SE 3.5 which will be sold between 20t-50tEUR, are cheaper than the Rover ones, it´s more depending on the number of cars and so number of companies offering spares. Due to the wide range of other RV8 models, motor parts will be affordable for a long time. Yes, for more specific P6 parts, prices will rise and parts from later series are not interchangeable (as in many Mercedes, Porsche, Opel, Ford etc are).
The Merc club where I am member too, has a huge (huge !!!) spares warehouse, they are traveling each year to US scrapyards and send back 2-3 40" containers. They also offer new spares, manufactured in small series, for very low prices on a non-profit base (Just to run the club). But it´s not comparable, the Mercedes scene is "huge" and these special guys spend all of their time, their holidays, it´s incredible.
