Following on from a previous thread about smartphone access to the forum, I've been made aware of this Tapatalk system, which allows you to access multiple forums from a single phone app. It should be relatively easy to add the system to our forum, the question is, would it be worthwhile ?

Does / has anybody used the tapatalk system, do you think it would be worth adding to the forum ? Have no idea what I'm talking about ? don't worry it's not important :D

never tried it, i'll download and have a look! (to be honest - on my desire hd the web version works well! although if any of my posts seem short or full of spelling mistakes that'll be why ;) )

Not heard of Tapatalk  , but I can access the forum with no problems using my sony erricson arc in its normal format, can post and up load pics if anything can be easyer than the laptop or pc at home

not sure if that helps Richard

Never heard of it. Will see if I can install it on one of my kids smart phone or Android device thingies (than ask them how to use it :)). Personally, I tend to avoid mobile phones like the plague.

I've seen posts on other forums with the statement "sent using Tapatalk", but as Graeme says I also use a BB so no probs with keyboard. Just need a bigger screen, or maybe stronger glasses 8)

I guess whatever helps people access the forum has to be a good idea. We're not always at our computers when we need forum assistance.

seems to cost £2 to download. Wondering if there are any free versions...?
After a bit of mucking about on the kids' Android tablet, I found a freeware Android application called Convo which is "powered" by Tapatalk. I managed to install this OK.

When you start the Convo App it prompts you to enter the address of a forum server. I had a bit of bother finding a forum that supports Tapatalk but eventualyy came across forums.anandtech.com which did. I was then able to access this forum OK (it's a forum for computer techie stuff). I did find lot's of posts on lots of forums with users asking for Tapatalk to be enabled.

Am I right in thinking this is quite a new facility? I did come across some Linux forum posts with users stating there were security risks - don't know if they are founded?

From my brief try, it looked quite useful and should allow anyone with a smart phone, tablet or anything running Android access to our forum.

I think it's fairly new, I certainly hadn't heard of it before. However I must say I suspect the advances in smartphone tech, especially the screens, kind of makes it redundant, it's almost as easy to just browse the forum as you would on a pc.

Luckily it's free to apply to the forum, so I'll have a look and see what's involved.

Yes - this is true. The browser on mine isnt much different to using chrome or firefox on the pc. The one thing that is difficult with a phone is selecting links... that's what the tapatalk system would improve to my way of thinking.
