Temperature gauge 3500auto 1971

hi, for some unknown reason my temperature gauge has decided not to work anymore. I've earthed the cable from the sensor to check the sensor and the gauge refuses to move, so I'm assuming it's a problem with the cable or the gauge itself. All the other gauges work fine. If I take out the gauge how can I check it, plus how can I check the cable is ok as I'm not sure where it goes in the instrument panel. Happy to take out the gauge. I assume it doesn't have its own dedicated fuse or am I wrong. Any ideas appreciated. Thanks Mike

Presumably you earthed out the sender with the ignition switched on, if not try it that way. If it still doesn't work all of the wiring comes into the cluster through a multiplug. I can't remember having a gauge fail, it was always the sender, but it's obviously possible.

Hi Harvey, yes I did switch the ignition on and the gauge didn't budge. I suppose the next job will be to check the sender wire using a gauge. Any ideas on how to determine which pin the wire goes to. ?

I can only suggest looking at the wiring diagram as an initial starting point. After that you may find that removing the binnacle and wiggling the multiplug may lead you to a bad connection. There's also the chance of a break on the PCB.
