Thinking of getting a Rover 75......

There are lots of nice ones about at the moment. This one, in Preston would be on my shopping list, were I looking for one. Connoisseur SE spec, with high line sat nav, and the highly desirable, and coveted power fold mirrors. Worth a look, I'd say.

You're tempting me now, and I have enough of a lack of money and large enough stock of cars as it is!!!

Thanks for the replies lads. I may put in a cheeky bid for it and see what they say. Fraser: I think you're right. It is that sort of lovely deep metallic red you see a load of them painted in and I did think the spec was a bit odd (it did has the Rover badge embossed on the headrests too).

With the fact that the belts and thermostat had been done and the fans work, I may just have a go for this one. Mind you, I wish you hadn't posted the one in Preston up.......

monogram interior. The one i had was like this. Had Deep burgundy paintwork too - apparently a p5 colour.

The Rover logo was embossed onto the headrests of all 75s with leather, from Cowley. A really nice feature, sadly deleted on later cars.

Yep, I noticed that one. I've been studying the fascinating thread on the 75 forum regarding the tragedy that was Project Drive and the criminal penny-pinching that went on.

It's why I wouldn't be happy with a late one as I would sit there and notice all the bits that were worse compared with the early ones. The red one I saw even had both fold-out front cup-holders! Even today, they are a thing of wonder.

Got a couple more in mind to go and examine, including the one in Derby which has been on sale forever at a suitably nutty price. Worth a look though, even if just for interest.

Just seen two more. First one showing 23k and generally nice apart from the rear passenger door not opening and water in the boot. Very slight evidence of coolant in the vee (how much to fix that?), brakes rusty and at least one tyre original from 2001! Engine and box lovely and no knocking from suspension. Cooling fan cuts in properly too.

The Derby one is a heap of crap though and worth nowhere near its lofty price. Rust on back arch and front of bonnet. In fact, a piece of bonnet fell off when I shut it! Cooling fan didn't cut in either. The only dry boot I've come across though.

I'll give it all some thought

Sorry for coming back to the party late, but how did you get on?

The water in the vee will be the thermostat housing. Cheap enough, and easy to fix but... getting to it is a bit of a bastard. You have to remove the manifolds, fuel rack, etc. Pain in the arse, but I wouldn't let it put me off an otherwise good 75. Somebody somewhere does metal thermostat housings to replace the plastic ones that split (trawl the 75 forums). From what I've seen, almost all 75s leak into the boot, but the causes are known and once again, it shouldn't put you off an otherwise good one. The fans do crap out too, but I just rebuilt mine (simple enough) rather than paying the exorbitant sums wanted for a replacement. It's usually just brushes and resistors. Suspension knocks are most commonly the lower front bushes, something the 75 does chew out, but they should last 100,000 miles, and they're not hard to replace. Quite cheap to buy, too, unless you get them from Xpart.

Sorry for the lack of replies. The urgent need to rebuild my garage after exposing a severe lack of structural integrity over the last couple of weeks has curtailed any collection-building activities for the time being.

My P6 is having to live at my Dad's gaff until we can sort it out as the garage is only fit for storing aquatic life.

Would still like a 75 at some point but it will have to wait.
