Hello chaps

New to the forum but not new to P6. I was evicted from my council garage so it has spurned me on to re-commission my P6 V8 after languishing for 10 years. I've owned this since I was 21. Still only 60,000 miles on the clock but looking a bit sorry for itself now.

Starting with refurbing the brakes first then we'll see if it runs. A few panels need replacing but these have been collected over the years so need prepping and fitting. New tyres wouldn't go amiss either!!

How do I upload piccies?

Well heres my attempt at some photos.

It's covered in quite a bit of grime.

The nearside wing and door is damaged due to master cylinder failing (I coudn't stop and hit the side of the garage).
Other than that it's complete. ETs, 3500S steering wheel and hub caps.

Welcome!
That will give you LOADS of FUN this year!!!
Keep us up to date on how its going, and dont hesitate to ask any questions no matter how silly they may seem! :D

Nice one Sweatmonster... that ticks all the right boxes, Mexico Brown, S trims, full overiders front and rear and a bott mounted spare..... lovely. It's exactly like the V8 my Dad used to get a lift to work in from 1972 to 1977 8)

Nidge

That doesn't look too bad at all! Give it a good wash, and I think you'll be surprised how good it comes up. Good luck with it! Same colour as mine... (Well at the moment anyway..) :D

Thanks for the welcome lads.

Like i say, the other side doesn't look so good but should be easily repairable.
Rebuilt front calipers should go on this weekend. Already fitted new hoses and pipes.

I'm near Rochester in Kent.

Front calipers have been rebuilt now with new seals and a fresh lick of paint.
Took 10bar of pressure to get the near side pistons out. Pistons are a bit pitted but I'll take that risk as for the cost of a new set I may as well get re-con calipers.

All ready to be re-fitted.

Anybody had this happen to them before on the rear disc?
The car came off the road cos the brakes were iffy. It turns out that the disc had sheared from the hub to which the caliper was holding!!

Lucky I have a spare and the caliper was untouched.

Yes I've seen that happen a lot. I have a method for checking the discs while they are off even if the crack isn't visible yet.

Do you know what usually causes this, Harvey? Stress-cracking?

Had both of of my rear discs do this, though not through to complete seperation as in your case.

Graeme

My guess is that if the calipers are stiff on the pivots and therefore load the disc more one side than the other.

Chris

If I recall it sounded like the pads were worn down so I ignored it.
Hate to think what sort of sparking was happening under the fuel tank all this time!!!

I think it is more of a disc resonance problem rather than off centre braking due to pivot seizure, the pivot would most likely be seized in the correct central position as this would be it rest position prior to seizure.

Graeme

Progress update.
Brakes front & rear are all rebuilt, fitted and bled.
And this morning after some carefull oil pump priming and fettling with the timing it burst into life.
Luvley!!

It will see daylight soon.

After a period of absence from this site due to work etc I now need the impetus to pick up where I left off!!

All words of encouragment greatly recieved!!!
