Stan
Thank you stan for your well documented reply. i have been having trouble adjusting/directing my lights for some time, they seem to spray all around. i replaced the globes with a pair of halogen with very little difference. i am going to get the reflectors vacuum plated and see if that will help. thanks again best regards Derrick Smith

If you have replaced the lenses then you wont get a decent pattern. It is not just the lens pattern but the focal length of the bulb that comes into play. I use reproduction P700 lights in my Cobra and the dip is as you say splashy, but the main beam is great.
I think you need to source some properly made repro P700's to sort the problem, they have come on since the early days and now have Halogen bulbs.

Thanks for your advice cobraboy i have not changed any thing yet only the halogen globes, so i will have to do some more tinkering, best regards Derrick.Smith. PS i suppose scotts rubbers will stock new rubber gaskets for these lights.

Halogen bulbs are unlikely to work well in original P700 light units. The original bulbs for the P700 had transvers filaments, most Halogen have axial ones. This means the focal point of the filament, especially on dip will be in the wrong place and thus give the spray pattern . The reflector, lens and bulb holder all need to be designed together for Halogen, for it to work properly.

Thank you rover480 for your remarks that is probably the reason the halogens made little or no difference. regards. Derrick Smith

I have just purchased a pair of reproP700`s when i went to fit them they were too small almost 7 inches across, the old originals were almost 8 inches across. just goes to show how much a amateur auto electrician does not know. Derrick.Smith (deckell)

I have no idea whether the following is correct but I've been reading a restoration thread on a P3 75 (RHD) which refers to the original headlights as Lucas 50280 / 50281 (LH /RH respectively) . Sorry, can't post a link but it's on www.team-bhp.com
The Lucas references mean nothing to me but a search might conme up with something.
