twin carb "special bolt"

Hello,
In the quest for ever improving my 2200TC and its running i had a look over yesterday while it was running and noticed some rubber washers which i think shouldnt be there, could anyone help? The pic below isnt mine, i shamelessly took this from another thread but it shows the bolts i am on about, brackets holding the carbs to the manifold designed to allow free movement. Someone has put rubber spacers on the bolt head of mine which i initially thought should be manifold side of the bracket, but as i removed them and fitted there they are very hard and brittle, I think there should be none there after thinking about it more and also i cannot see any rubber spacers listed in any manual i have. Can anyone confirm?

No rubber washer required, the carbs float on the mounting O-rings and retained by the brackets and the spring force. The bolts only restrict the movement and add some security.

Many thanks I think the washers I had fitted there were actually causing vibration so look forward to trying without when I next get over to it thanks again

Once you do that, if I were you I'd get the car running and then spray a little WD-40 or similar in the area behind those steel plates the special bolt goes through. If the engine picks up speed, it means the o-ring seals in there have been compromised, either because of the rubber washers or possibly the reason the rubber washers were put on in the first place.

Good advice, thankyou. The car is roadworthy and i did several thousand miles last year, only currently not using due to weather. I had it running well last week and i did wonder if i could hear a hissing sound so will act upon your advice. The carbs were rebuilt a 3 or 4 years ago but i dont remember what was changed in that area.
