underside sill cover gap

Hi
Can anyone tell me the gap I should have/leave between the outer sill cover and the underside floor pan fixed each side by about 10 self tapping screws.
It seems to me if you tighten the outer cover tight to the floor pan you have a water trap
That will rust quite quickly.
Maybe i have parts missing that leaves the correct gap!
Thanks Dave

I think, the gap comes by using the plastic nuts (367838), see the encl page from the spares catalogue.

If you have original sills, the point that screws to the floor will be flush fitting, but in between each of the fixing the screws is a slightly different contour allowing for drainage.
There should also be a drain hole adjacent to each fixing point.
If the outer sill section that connects to the floor it totally flush all the way along its length then they are repro'sPhoto2316[1].jpg
