Unusual drone/vibration

With this little glimmer of sunshine I have been using my dads 2000 as a daily driver to work and back approx 16miles. I have noticed that it has started to make a strange noise when you slip into 4th when accelerating on the dual carriageway? Around town and accelerating up through the gears is fine but once you pop it into 4th then it makes a droning noise akin to running on the rumble strip, the car will still continue to pull well?? When I last used the car back in December it was fine.

Is there anything I should be looking for as its a bit of a mystery to me?? It does not seem to affect the actual way the car drives it is just not right being inside.....

I does seem to be only in 4th gear from around 50-65mph, my normal cruising speeds. Like I said putting my foot down in 2nd and 3rd she accelerates great. It isn't excessively loud but you can feel it through the steering wheel and see the rear view mirror vibrating...
 
All you can do is look at the normal suspects, exhaust grounding out somewhere, diff pinion mounting, prop and driveshaft u/j's for starters.
 
Will do. I've got some time off this week as its half term so time will be spent under the car :D was hoping to crack on with my VW Beetle weldathon but no matter.....
