V8 oil pressure after crank regrind.

I've had my crank reground and fitted the correct size new main and big end bearings. It's all back together now and I've attempted to prime the oil pump by turning the oil pump drive clockwise through the distributor hole. I've used this method before very successfully but on this occasion it would not switch out the light (it's a series 1 so no gauge). The resistance certainly increased so I thought I was nearly there but no luck. So, I decided to removed the oil pump to check it out, pack it with vaseline and crank the engine with the King lead disconnected, but it still won't extinguish the light. Is this typical with a regrind or have I missed something?

Should put the light out, IIRC I saw around 20 psi on the gauge cranking on the starter after initial drill priming.

Have you checked the oil pressure relive valve and spring? they can stick in the housing giving pressure problems.
Also a silly question, oil strainer pick up, gasket to block fitted ok?
Otherwise i would use a mechanical oil pressure gauge and retest just to make sure.

Oil pressure switch? Just because it's new doesn't mean it can't be faulty. Is oil getting to the rocker gear?

Thanks folks for your input. I spent a bit more time on it this evening and have got the light to go out. I reckon the main problem was that my battery drill wasn't up to the job and just wasn't spinning quickly enough. I went with a belt and braces approach by re packing the pump, removing the rocker cover to check flow and re priming the pump with a more powerful drill. All good now and it runs a treat. Thanks again.
