Vapour lock in 2000 SC

Very strange way for cast iron to break up! Didnt leave you with any options though. On my V8 there is a metal fuel pipe along the LH side of the block, and I have fitted some Firesleeve to that area to protect it from exhaust heat. You will need a size that just fits over the pipe end fittings .

What I did in the end was paint the manifold in heat resistant paint and wrap the manifold in heat wrap. I took some temp readings before and after for comparison and that's attached. I've got some Firesleeve for the fuelpipe which is going on this week. I've also got a temperature probe in the engine bay so I can keep track of the ambient air temp when stopped at lights or in traffic. Hopefully I've done enough.

I'm guessing the temp of the down pipe has increased because there is now more heat being retained within the manifold and therefore being sent down the exhaust pipe - but I'm open to correction on that!

I also put some adhesive heat reflective material on the underside of the heat shield

Nice shiny carb back in place
