VINYL ROOF?

Option on the 3500 and I believe after 74 standard. Dunno about the 4cyl. My old 74 3500 car definitely had it.

Fine if you like a solar collector on a non-aircon car....

And didn't some of these cars also have a sunroof fitted within the vinyl roof? I guess stuff like that and the boot mounted spare were optional at an extra cost?

Mine had the Tudor Webasto sunroof also. I think these were these dealer fit and as such didn't invalidate any factory warranty. They have a lift up flap of tinted perspex.

Mine also had a period sunroof catalogue in the shin bin featuring a charming young lady in a red mini-dress.

It was nice is summer but didn't do much for refinement. Wind noise isn't a strong P6 suit and the front edge of the roof added to this.

You might just be able to see it in this picture: https://scontent-fra.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot ... e=559A6B90

I would love to see that catalogue? Was it an official Rover one or done by a separate company?

It was the Webasto catalogue. I assume it just lived there from new. I don't have the car (that is a 17 year old me in the picture) anymore. But I remember how wonderfully dated it was in 1989....

I wish I'd been able to keep GCO 782N. One of the last 10.5:1 cars. It drove really, really well and was much quicker than my current V8. Would have been an easy welding job for many people on this forum today. Alas the same story as many.

Please forgive my ignorance but were Webasto a separate company and if so did they also make roofs for other car manufacturers back in the day?

Tudor Webasto (and their agents) fitted sunroofs for anyone's car provided they had the necessary folding stuff.

Occie doesn't have one (and I'm happy with that), but the S-Type had a colour-matched one fitted at the time of purchase in 1966.

Gratuitous shots...

Yes, standard on 3500 from October 1973, basically 1974 model year. At the same time the 3500S lost the bolt-through wheel trims and engines were lower compression ratio.

Vinyl roof option on 4-cylinder cars from 1976 model year.

Peter - GCO...N with a 10.5:1 compression? Assuming that was the original number and registration, ie 1974/5, it would have been low compression originally, unless it was quite old stock, although the vinyl roof would indicate otherwise. Still, not worth loosing too much sleep over it now

This may be a Rover forum, but I wanna hear more about this one..... Since you bought I've been waiting, but very little has been seen or heard. Start a Thread in Member's Projects please.

Well...I have been busy with a few jobs on it, honest! I'll pull the threads of info together and post it up.

More anon. :)

So were the Webasto roofs fitted at the point of car manufacture within Rover garages themselves?

Also, is there an operational Webasto fitting centre within the UK?

Fairly certain it was "dealer fit" which was probably contracted out to the Webasto Tudor agent in the area.

As in the Webasto agent fitted the roof on site in a Rover garage?

Is there an operational Webasto fitting centre within the UK?

They crop up on ebay every so often, you usually just bolt in a complete roof panel. I doubt there are any experienced fitters still in business.

Most specialists should be able to refurbish one but it will cost, mainly labour.
