VIP not advertised as such

Total 77 made - 47 in Platinum - 30 in Brasilia.
Not sure if any Brasilia ones still exist and we don't have any listed on our members database.
The new edition Rover P6 book by James Taylor contains a section on the VIP model (available to buy from the P6ROC)

Sad to know the Brasilia one is probably extinct though :-(

There was a guy on an Irish Classic Car Forum who claimed to have a Brasilia one, but last I heard he had relocated to France and there was no word from him about his cars.
I will see if I can find a link to it

thought I saw one here in NZ in the early 90's (brazilia) so possibly still alive

The owner of MJP 515P VIP has confirmed that it didn't belong to Leon Vanstone.
I wonder if he will change the quantity left on his advert.

The brown P6 that Colin has shown looks more like Mexico Brown to me and I think the Brasilia VIP were more darker and reddish. I don't have any info on this one.

The info came from Gareth Jones, I sent him a pm. He knew the car as per the linked post. Although Rudiger said he has no info on the car that photo is on his site to show colours.

Mexico was changed for brasillia for the 1976 models so an R plate would have left the factory Brasillia although it could have been repainted.

Maybe we should start a thread to discuss and capture info on VIP cars. Potential survivors etc.

I had a quick look on flickr which is interersting. Must be more of them out there.

A friend of mine had a P6 years ago & bought one for spares. I never saw it & when he asked me if l wanted anything off of it before he scrapped it, l said no as l never thought l'd get another. At the time l was only really into my P5B having replaced my previous P6 with it. I do recall him saying it was silver with tinted windows & aircon so whether it was a VIP, I couldn't say but if it was l should be kicking myself harder now than l currently do when l think about it.

Not that l'm particularly enamoured by them as such, but an opportunity missed nonetheless.

I had a similar thing with an estate. I was offered one for £100, MOT failure on tyres and exhaust, all of which I had in stock, but I gave it a miss, and even though I don't particularly like those either, sitting here now it would be nice to be in the position to say I'd owned one.

Hindsight, eh!

I did own that green custom estate for half a day before passing it on to Rich Moon. Amazingly for me, l let practicality win the day & didn't hang on to it when he asked if l'd changed my mind about selling it to him. It did go well.

And another thing.......

the VIP at Milestone Classics,

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C620934

is advertised as being first reg'd on 21/5/76, which would make it a P reg. Fair enough. Yet there appears to be what is the top of a suffix letter 'N' peeping over the top of the Milestone Classics number plate advert cover board.

If it is indeed an N suffix reg plate on the car then one or more of the following must be true, bear with me here:

1) To be a genuine VIP it is a 1976 car but with a private plate with an N reg? Hopefully the most likely explanation as it does appear to be genuine.
2) The advert has given the wrong reg date? Possible explanation, but then that could mean....
3) ....it is a genuine N plate car (1/8/74 - 31/7/75) but therefore not a genuine VIP? Hope not this explanation.

According to James Taylor's book the first two pilot build VIP's were made in June 75, which would have given them N plates assuming they were registered before 1/8/75 when P plates appeared. But since the advert gives the reg date as 21/5/76 this car can't be one of those two extreme rarest of the rare. It would have to have started life with a P plate if the advertised reg date is correct. Presumably the only two 1975-built VIP's are now deceased and the only survivors are either P,R or private plate registered?

The VIP plot thickens, as always .......

Hi, A digress from the topic at hand, in the early 80s I was offered an estate by a mates customer
it was a series 1 and had been updated to series 2. It was quite strong money and was a bit tired
but nothing I couldn't do, but I'd just bought another project car, so I passed on it. My mates cousin
bought it and he sold it soon after and it ended up going to America. I found out later that it was the
brochure car. Someone on here said it was last seen in a scrap yard over there.

The 'Milestone' VIP has the reg. no. PDV 600M as shown in the July 2015 Classic Car Mart, so this must be a private registration.
SAL 756 was from the owners Father's car and if I remember correctly was a P4.
