Washer motor

A while ago my washer motor stopped working, so after taking it to bits, failing to get it to work and looking for a new one, all to no avail, I bought one of these

This sits under the washer bottle and the original one stays where it was, so it all looks standard.

This pump lasted for a while (short while) but then the car came off the road for a long while. When I put it back on the road, I couldn't get the pump working and it was past its guarantee so I bought another one, from a well known supplier. This now doesn't work either

Anyone know of a reliable washer pump I can use? Or perhaps a better way of installing (does it need to be primed at all times, or should it be left to empty out after use?

I have a month to sort this, so I might just manage it this time

Do you have any additive in the screen washer fluid , as I am aware some expand the impellor so it seizes up. Cannot comment on a suitable supply. Holdens have a few but how good ?

I do use an additive, hadn't thought of that :hmm:

I am just looking at the Holden site, so might try one of theirs, cheers for that

I have fitted a similar looking one inside the washer bottle, hung under the cap. I have kept the original pump on the top of the cap, so it looks standard. Most of the times i am using an additive. I had no failures after months (or years?) of staying inactive, as for the last five years the car goes out mainly in fair weather.

I am wondering if mounting it so low down keeps it full of water and this affects it badly?

I have taken all of the gubbins off the front including the gears, and the motor is very tight, almost seized. I loosened it by hand, wiggling it back and forth, and it runs for a second or two before seizing again :(

So, after chatting to a very helpful chap at Holdens I have bought a better quality (more expensive) unit. I'll see how that goes. It is self priming so I'll mount it higher than the water level.

Have been through this recently. Got the original pump to work after much effort (special attention needs to paid to the brushes) and they need to be primed. The impellers may well be the same from those in the after market broken ones you have . To stop the water siphoning back into the bottle, I put an aquarium one way air valve just out of sight as close to the pump as possible. Works a treat... And I don't use an additive in any of my classic cars, Goes slimy after some time if pump not used. Bit late for you but JR Wadhams sell something similar.
