What is sundym glass???

I believe it is a slightly tinted glass which relects more sunlight than clear glass.

It supposedly keeps the inside of the car cooler.

Drop the window slightly and look out of the car.

You should notice a difference (Perhaps a green tint) when looking through the glass as opposed to looking out above the window.

Hi Richard.

Sundym will be marked on the glass along with the other etched info about it.
It has a greenish tint to it,and was popular on the higher spec cars,ie 3500's.
Its worth having if you can find a good complete set! Bugger of a job to fit it all though!!

Believe it or not, it does work. My TC has it fitted ($10 extra in '68 in the US!) and it is certainly cooler inside than our Golf. You do notice a greenish tint, but it is really subtle.

Checked it and it does have sundym glass, the green tint is very subtle, silly question but does it ware out??? Just that I had a Mk3 Cortina that had it (well I think it had it) it's glass was a lot greener, that was about 20 years ago.....

Hi Richard.

Take a look at all of your glass panels! some may have been replaced over the years and may be plain!
I dont think it wears out with age!
I suspect that the various makers, rover, ford, triumph, bently, rolls etc had it made to different specs, and tint colours,so some appear darker than others.
My old 1971 XJ6 had syndym, and I remember it was a bit darker than the rover.

Yup, all marked up as sundym. I had thought that maybe the windscreen had been changed and the other glass done to match but seems to be the original glass on the car, which is good. :)
