I took the carb off my '66 2000SC today because I was replacing the exhaust manifold, which had cracked and was leaking. I found an odd thing inside the intake. Is this normal?
It seems like it might be there to provide a smooth transition from the carb to the main manifold. But it was actually not together any more and one half had made its way all the way into the main manifold. The other half was sitting on top of it. The end result was quite an obstruction in the intake. You can see how far into the intake it had migrated and how long it had been like that in the next photo. Look at the little groove it was wearing into the back of the alloy:
I just took it out when I put things back together. Doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Is this normal? Or did someone do something funny...
Thanks
