What's missing here?

I've been under the car trying to find out where all my brake fluid is going. It's coming out of this caliper somewhere. Shouldn't there be a cap of some sort on this threaded part? What exactly is missing, and what did it do?

I know it's not the cause of the leak.

There is a special bolt/cap missing, and it should have a spring behind it to put some tension on the pivot pin.

It was probably left loose and just fell out.

There are two types of cap, if you get one get the later type as it will fit with either type of handbrake quadrant whereas the early one will only fit with the early type quadrant.

PS It's possible I have the cap and spring.

As for the leak, judging by the wetness there including the handbrake shaft, the culprit is the caliper seal(s). So to look on the bright side, that big nut is often a pain to remove so you've got leg up. lol.

Aren't I lucky! Ha. These calipers were rebuilt when I got the car in 2014 so I'm hoping nothing's too seized up. I'm particularly thrilled about this since I just rebuilt my servo last month after that drank all my brake fluid. I've used more brake fluid than petrol the last couple months!

If you do, that'd be wonderful! I can't see it being available anywhere.

I have the spring, but only the early type cap, and that won't fit in with the later quadrant that you have.

You could either put a "Wanted" posting on here, or you could send a PM to The Rovering Member as he has a few caliper bits knocking around and may have ones he would sell you. After that there's Wins or MGBD.

Thanks for looking.

I can't really get underneath the car, so I'm going to pack the car off to a P6 friendly garage for this and a few other jobs, I'm sure he can find the missing bits.
