What's your longest trip in a P6?

Inspired by Quagmire's trip to the Dales, I recall my winter-holiday journey in my first P6B in 1998 with two friends while studying in Cape Town. It's a bit far-out looking back at it. It's a whole other situation in SA. Distances are massive but roads are fabulous if dangerous at times.

We covered 4500 kms in ten days, achieving 26 mpg in an auto usually doing 110 kmh. It was fantastic, except when we broke down in stabby Hillbrow, Jhb. on a Saturday night and when some street kids snatched my cassette tapes out through the quarterlight in Maputo with me in the car. Oh, the fuel pump also gave up and I had a noisy electric one plumbed in at a service station near Nelspruit having crossed the border from Mozambique. Yeah, they had one lying around.

We carried a spare wheel and a tool kit. And oodles of youthful optimism.

Love it, and love the photo! I've seen that before, since it's saved in my folder of 'cool P6 photos' haha!

I've used mine twice to go to France for 1-2 weeks, totalling inbetween 2000-2500kms each time. Hassle free, of course. ;)

Few hundred kms at a time for me.. and then a few hundred miles at a time when I moved to the UK. Nowhere near as far as others have driven them..

I’m not going to beat 4k km for sure. I guess for Beryl about 700 miles including 50 or so in anger on the track. The return journey was 300 miles of ‘spirited’ driving on back roads through upstate NY, PA and NJ. Much to my surprise I didn’t suffer a hitch the whole weekend, other than worn out tyres.

Longest for me was the whole length of New Zealand then back again in one epic Christmas holiday road trip, so about 5,500 plus KMs in about 1988.
Achieved an average of about 27 mpg and on one or two stretches of road went over 100 mph but in general kept 60 to 70 mph.

Back in the early 1990s I went to Melbourne a couple of times. Each trip in round figures is around 2000km. The longest trip my Rover has done is probably close to 3000km.

What is that white/red sportscar?! Love it!

Back in 1973, I drove from Mt Tom Price Western Australia to Perth and then on to Melbourne to ship my car to NZ a total of 5000kms in Oz and 2600km to NZ
7600km all up in two weeks, but I think I may have cheated getting to NZ as I wasn't driving.
