Where's Dave Herns?

Continuing a theme, another regular poster who's not been on here for nearly 2 months now. Anybody have any idea why?

Alive and well but decided to give this forum a break. I seemed to have annoyed enough people on various topics such as smoking , parking and my dog pooing on the pavement that I felt this was no longer a friendly place to be. May well be my own fault so those that want to criticize me need not bother.
I was planning on getting my P6 back on the road for it's 40th birthday but it never happened and maybe never will . I'd sell it but what would I put in the garage in it's place ?

You are being a bit hard on yourself there Dave .
I enjoy your different take on life / things in general .
What a boring forum if you weren't here on a regular basis. [ now Im doing it ]
I only tune in for your twisted view .
Stay cool dude , lotsa peeps out here love you.
Gerald

yup - you're a valued member here :) You dont get to escape that easily...

Would like to know more about your p6 Dave - I dont remember ever seeing anything on it! Maybe it was from before i joined?

Don't let a few spoil sports deprive the rest of us of your, err, unique take on life, Dave! Besides, we need to keep the expert count up. There's more than enough muppets like me fumbling our way through P6 projects. We need all the expert help we can get!

I think it's as friendly a forum as any Dave as long as you keep wild personal views out of it ( it's really about the cars and a little "light" banter eh ! )
You obviously don't want to give it a break , as you replied to this thread within 24 hours .
I would of thought you'd have the shoulders to carry it , and carry on ,
. I don't think there are any long term hard feelings here .
But i don't expect you give a sh**e about what i think
Stop sulking now and come on back , come on , you know you want to :D

Go on the jag xj40 forum, a far less friendly place with identical format. lots of negative vibes there. (sorry for sounding like a hippy dudes)

As with all fora, you will inevitably get the odd'un who will use any opportunity to let you know in no uncertain terms that they are mortally offended, and sometimes on behalf of others they haven't even met, so I really wouldn't give it a tinkers t*ss if I were you, Mr Herns.

Most fine upstanding folk on here are made of sterner stuff. Carry on!

Dave, as a fellow opinionated one, don't let them get to you. After all, it's your opinion/conviction versus theirs, and
as much as it can get tense at times, it's all part of what makes us as humans unique.
For my part, I'd like to see you here again, even under a nom-de-plume.....

Dave, as someone who was on the first forum Rovernet in the late 1990's I can assure you the situation is not unique and I, like many others have been there. In those days 90% of the contributors were Americans/Canadians which didn't help with communication! The internet does not allow for the primeval communication of facial movements and body language and hence many things written come across differently when in print than face to face. :( this can lead to resentment and genuine upset which is rarely, if ever, meant.

I hope you will reconsider your self imposed exile and may I respectfully suggest your 40 year old restoration project might be a good place to start? Why not some pics and a list of the to do jobs, if it's not tooooooo depressing ;) , we'd all be interested and I'm sure it would restore your sense of 'belonging'

Hope to read the first instalment soon ..... :) :)

Best Regards

Hi Dave.

Good to hear you are still about!
You could always sell your 40yr old project car if you cannot get round to fixing it up!
And you could replace it in the garage with my on the road 44 yr old earliest known 1970 S2V8 and start enjoying P6 ownership and driving again, as you can then attend local shows in it while gradually making improvements!
Sometimes having a car thats actually up and running can boost the enthusiasm for getting those little jobs done!

Cheers Dave

As said previously, the forum first and foremost is about the cars and helping to keep them on the road. Along with that comes some banter which personally I don't get involved in ( lol ) Everyone has to have a bit of banter it's all meant as a bit of fun and should be taken as such. Just ask the forum members of the cars painted in " the colour that can't be mentioned"

Mick

Whoah, Almond? That's the colour that can't be mentioned? Almond? Who knew? Obviously there are some things even your friends wont tell you. I thought it was the colour that could be touched up with Tippex, or that green that looks like polished primer

John.

as long as you arent causing almond owners to feel 'under fire' permanently there is no objection to anybody discussing almond :) The problem was that people were saying they were leaving the forum because they (more than one) felt people were insulting their pride and joy. Just a question of thinking of how your comments make others feel, even (especially?) if it's in jest.
