windscreen broken!

Yesterday we had a meeting of the Dutch Rover Owners Club, it was lovely, sunny and warm weather so a good day to bring out the P6. Gave it a quick polish on saterday and sunday we went to the german border near Arnhem.
When we were almost there, on the motorway, a loud bang and the windscreen went to pieces. A hole in front of me and the rest misted up
Luckily nobody got hurt (the rest of the family was also in the car) but we were all a bit shaken.
I have not seen a stone or anything like that coming so I am still wondering what broke the window. Maybe the strong sun on the screen?
A recovery truck got us and the car resonable quick home so now I can get going with getting all the glass out of the interieur.
I was planning to finish off the building work in my house now my Allegro finally got its MOT (this morning his first MOT in 22 years :D )
but now I need to repair the P6 first.

Regards,

Kees

Hello Kees,

It was most likely a stone or similar. My Rover suffered the same in 1986, car went past in the opposite direction, next second the whole windscreen is white... Luckily it was a quiet country road and I had no one behind me! For years windscreens have been laminated so the problem of a granulated windscreen will be a thing of the past.

Ron.

Hope you can find a screen local to you,and remember it doesnt fit in the same way as a normal screen like on the mini!

Shame your not UK based, I've got a screen I was just about to bin.

Is it a Sundym? as Sparky has a crack in his. (His windscreen!)

I don't think so, it's laminated and has started to de-laminate at the bottom a bit. Plus it's got what looks like a bit of grind/weld splatter on it, I certainly wouldn't suggest it for Sparky. I've got a rear screen too to bin. I've got 2 spare sets in the garage already, you only need so many spares

And quite a loud bang at that! It happened to me 15 years ago & my daily P6s have always had laminated screens in since.
This is also one of the very few non-original modifications I'm doing to my '64 2000. It wasn't always better in years gone by :D

Re: windscreen broken! Fixed

Hurray, today I have changed my broken windscreen :D Now I can drive it again.
It really is a easy job on a P6.
Thanks to the forummembers that offered a replacement.

Regards,

Kees

i had my windscreen shot at a couple of years ago.
a kiddie with an air rifle.
he'd shot out 20-30 side windows on various cars in the area during the night but i didn't know this till after he shot mine
oddly i actually saw the pellet as it hit the windscreen
i thought it couldn't have been but then i heard about the devils spawn!
