windscreen seals

It is a very long time since I fitted a string-in window and not to a P6 so this information might be totally incorrect.

This procedure might be correct for some cars, but it is totally irrelevant for the P6.
The correct procedure is described in the factory manual.

It is a very long time since I fitted a string-in window and not to a P6 so this information might be totally incorrect.
Firstly you have to get the Window onto a suitable work space clean the glass so its free of dirt and grease,
Next get yourself a spray bottle with washing up liquid and water make a mix and spray around the edge of the window dont worry about the water.
wrap the rubber around the screen banging in the rubber with flat hands to make sure its tight around the window then use a rope to go around the outer part of the rubber { So both ends of the small rope meet in the middle ie the bottom of the window or the top )spray your washing up liquid around the rubber.
Next marry up the window with the installed rubber on the window to the body still dont worry about water can clean and polish window later.
Now on cars that I have done the string should be on the inside of the car But the p6 might be different not sure on this point, with your left hand hold the rope, and get someone to press the screen from the outside by the starting point of your rope, where the start of your rope is, then hold the left side of the rope tight but not to tight then slowly start to pull the right rope, as you pull the rope you should see the rubber over lap the metal of the car body. as you pull the rope you need someone to be looking through the screen and moving there hands applying pressure to the screen.
If you need stop because its going wrong stop and spray more of your washing up liquid around the rubber dont worry it will dry and the rubber will push out the water mix anyway. Like I said I have never fitted a P6 screen but you might be able to pick up something from my post that might help you along the way good luck Dennis Best Wishes[/QUOTE

fitting screens is easy, fit rubber round screen in the outer flange on lip of both rubbers insert sting that makes it easy to help lipping over chrome, insert all into screen void not not forgetting bottom ledge (separate steel channel) that spans the two jacking points also insert three spacer above jacks and one in middle and wind jacking points up until tight and ten wind off a turn and half for stress on glass. I will use screenseal £9.00 from wayside adhesives on ebay great stuff that I will bead round body channel first. don't forget to fit strip of, I will use 10mm x 25mm neoprene rubber to underside of vent rubb

sorry, underside of vent rubber on car. in the past I have had 3 p6s and fit 2 screens in long ago past. that is how I will fit screens when I get seals that fit. many thanks to all for response. Dennis

Man, if you are going to post something please proof read it first. Post 23 is not going to help anyone in the future. I want to change my screen, but I cannot follow those instructions at all.

I am extremely sorry. I started this thread asking people for advice for where I can get good seals, not how to fit windscreens. I answered a question what seal I was using and briefly stated how I was fitting screen (When I get good seals) having mine out. I am sorry for missing the r & h out but I do not see what I have written that could be misleading

Dennis
You have done this more than once and I appreciate your time in posting a method, however, it is not clear what you are saying, to me anyway.
I may be the only one who has trouble following, but sorry it isn't helping me at all.
No malice intended.

I have a new set of windscreen rubbers in a box from wins here I hope they fit now
I never got round to fitting them.
You could always get in touch with another supplier and see if there is a measurement difference to the ones you have.
Good luck with it let us know what the outcome is Dennis

Thanks, I bought seals 19 month ago that's when I started restoration have been in touch with wins to no avail, I recommend looking at your seals lay them out and see if they are shaped like screen. no reply from scotts. Taking Craigs recommendation ordered from Wadhams, should arrive and fit next week. Also putting panels back on. regards all Dennis

p6 is different as the rubber only does 3 sides its "n" shaped, the bottom is open and via adjustable clamps the screen is pushed up into position

I'll be changing P6 screens soon so hoping the original rubbers will be good to go again.
My P5B may be having a new front rubber sooner than later & that's a mare of a job compared to the '6. The replacement rubbers also have a chequered record of being fit for purpose. I really want a laminated screen too so have to look into that.

Just had a look at mine and they do have the shaped corners I am not sure why you don't have the same.

Bit of a thread resurrection here. Bruiser 2 needs a rear screen seal & l normally assume Scott's is the go-to supplier. I see someone here had a niggle or two with one so what is the current concensus on seal supply? I'm still sort of assuming it's Scott's but recent experiences welcome.

I would go with Scott if he has the seal available. I recently replaced the front and rear glass seals in my car. The rear seal is a lot more forgiving than the front seal due to the slight differences in how they are installed and the trim is fit. I successfully used a seal from JRW or Wins (I can't remember which one) on the rear glass. The rear decker panel to glass seal was a different story. I tried ones from both JRW and Wins without great results. Once Scott had one in stock, I purchased one from him and the fit was 100 percent better.

UK supplied windscreen seals don't fit!

I measured the individual leaves of an OEM rubber against a UK supplied new rubber and the new rubber came up short, which is why they do not fit at the top corners

The leaves being too short was my experience for the front seal. There is a lot of distance to cover to be "on top" of the SS trip corner pieces. The rear seal doesn't seem to be as sensitive to any difference in width.
