Winter thermostat?

Hi all

Had my P6B for acouple of months. Now running cold as the weather gets colder. The gauge is not making it out of the white section and its not pulling as strongly as it was without a toych of choke. I saw a website selling a winter thermostat which opens at 88C. Anyone have any experience of these?

I know this will be a dumb question but where does the thermostat sit? I looked all around the radiator and couldn't see any thing obvious.

Thanks

Rich

88C is the factory winter thermostat, which can be used all year providing you a have a cooling system which doesn't struggle in the Summer. It fits behind the housing that bolts to the inlet manifold at the engine end of the top hose. The two bolts can snap so be careful, and make sure that the stat doesn't drop down as you fit it.

You need a stat with a jiggle pin in it, and fit the jiggle pin to the top.

another dumb question.... wht is a jiggle pin?

It allows air/coolant to bleed through even when the stat is closed preventing airlocks.

Installed standard 82C thermostat and temp now sitting in lower quarter of green.

When I took the top pipe to the radiator off I found that no thermostat was installed! Which explains the cold running and slow warm up.

If there wasn't a stat fitted, why didn't you fit an 88 degree one, particularly since you specifically asked about a "winter" stat?

not sure what I have but suspect it was an 88. must admit it does get a bit on hot side in traffic and summer days..hhmm. maybe I need to get an 82?
