wiring diagram

hello,
getting towards the finish of my P6 3500 1974 round dial Rover project, I have now a few electrical problems
the manual diagram is rather small, (someone's eyesight a bit dodgy nowadays), so I am looking to purchase a coloured larger version
any ideas welcomed
regards
Brian

I scanned a copy, then printed it out into 4 sheets of A4, and stuck it to the wall in the garage.

Local printers can scan and print life size copies. Colour isn't a big help as you need both the main colour and the trace line. plus many lines change colour as they go through connectors. A while ago I bought a Dymo Rhino which prints onto rolls of shrink wrap so I could write the coding on the wires. Eg. "headlamp inner main" etc

I had the wiring diagram from the workshop manual enlarged to A3 and laminated. It lives in the boot. At that size I can at least decipher what is supposed to go where, but I admit I still haven't got a clue about electrickery and often hand the large print out to a more competent individual for assistance!

Thanks for all the replies, I have now come across another fuse problem, in a diagram in the manual AKM3621 shows two separate fuses 81-82 from the other 10.
My fuse box lid shows from 1-2 battery control 3-4 heated rear window 5-6 side and tail ----- 21-22 screen wiper motor 23-24 heater motor. 12 fuses
have I the wrong lid, or the wrong diagram?

The wiring diagram should have the chassis suffix and whether manual or auto, you can't always tell from the model year.

thanks for the post, my chassis no is 45124549E, if there is a chance of a wiring diagram for sale, I would be much obliged
regards
Brian

I have a diagram for an S chassis suffix D RHD in a pdf. will try to attach it.

thanks for the effort, unfortunately I could not open it, most likely my computer skills are a bit lacking.
My fuse-box is behind the passenger glove- box, this has 12 fuses, which has the cover info as my previous posts, not sure if this came from the car as is, so, any ideas from members, ie, does it read Left to right or Right to left, how should it read
regards
Brian

To open the file you need Acrobat reader, which is a free download . If already have any files of type .pdf you should be able to open it. My fuses start with 1 on the left end.

Here is what someone has done with an MGB wiring diagram and many other cars. Unfortunately no Rovers.

You can only do that with relatively simple systems. Ours really would require splitting up into systems , or spreading over at least 2 A4 sheets. My 928 wiring runs to over 10 foolscap pages, showing switched 12V, constant 12V, and ground lines, with interconnect numbers to connect the systems. Once you master the protocol its easy to read and follow.

I hear what your saying. Although the P6 is relatively simple as far as wiring goes, there is just so much more of it. I printed off the diagram and with the finest pen I could find, wrote next to each item what they are. Then laminated it (A4)with the key page on the back. A copy in the car and one on the workshop wall. Lucky my eye sight's still great for close up. Since you've posted a nice and clear copy of the diagram here, I'll take a copy into work and print it off in A3. Will try adding some colour to the wires and see how it turns out.

Good idea! Dont have access to a copier than can enlarge. Maybe there are others out there with good diagrams in owner's manuals (for other models) who could scan and post the results here?

I think my electric problem lies in the dip stalk on the steering column, (contacts?) I am not getting "live" at the fuses, but I am still needing a readable diagram I can see, even my bloody glasses are giving me aggro.
So back to you boys, any decent drawings for sale out there?
Regards
Brian

This talk of the P6 wiring diagram being complicated makes me laugh. It fits on a single sheet of paper for crying out loud. Our 2012 Passat wiring diagram is a 263 page book (actually it's 630 pages, but the rest are about where all the electrical hardware is located around the car, not the wiring itself).

Yours
Vern

Vern, I dont find it complicated (not compared to a 928!), but difficult to read with my old eyes, even with specs. Some of the colour codes are marginal, and fuse end numbers. The one in the owner's manual is clearer, and has better contrast.
Can you please check to see if you can read the pdf I attached above, so I know its only Brian's problem, not mine/
thanks

JP, That pdf is fantastic. Way better than my brand new owners manual and the club CD. The Haynes manual has a clear copy too:eek:. I've printed yours off on a A3 sheet to play with. I'm right up there with eye sight challenges too. 3 different sets of glasses for different situations but if all else fails I can see clear as a bell at between 8 and 12 inches without glasses. (great for reading circuit diagrams...)
