BW 65 with BW 35 filter ?

Hi all
I recently bought a filter kit for what I believe is a BW65 in my 1975 P6. When I took off the pan, the filter looks like a BW35 unit. Can someone please confirm or clarify my suspicions. This is an Australian car, not sure if that makes any difference.

That's the wrong filter. Should be the snorkel type. BW65 wasn't ever fitted with a flat screen filter AFAIK

I have been testing the kickdown positioning, the lever doesn't move until near 1/4 throttle. The pic below is at full throttle, is that where it should be. Can I make adjustment to take out the slack without making it to tight at full throttle.

Adjust the cable so that as soon as the throttle starts to open, the cam starts to move, but at rest the cam must be back on it's stop. It mustn't be held open.

Hi Glen,

Cars with a BW65 transmission were not that common in Australia especially when compared to cars with the BW35. Ford in particular used the BW35 for improvements, longer lasting components, stronger gearsets etc. I can recall back in the 1980s transmission mechanics saying to me about the original Rover transmission parts being not nearly as strong as the Ford parts. That may explain why your BW65 transmission has a 35 filter. Parts for the former are likely pretty thin on the ground but for the 35 they are likely far more readily available.

Yes it did confuse me, for a moment I thought I had a BW35 or maybe there was an early and late BW65.
I remember a friend of mine had a VG valiant coupe with a stout 4.3/265 six cylinder, it ran 13.9 down the 1/4 mile. So I would say it had somwhere arround 280hp +. He ran the BW35 and never had an issue, he ended up rebuilding it with what he called a taxi pack. Agreed the BW35 were not bad in this country.
