Fuel mixture adjustment 2200SC

I believe my 2200SC is running too rich, and it only seems to get around 15mpg. I adjusted the mixture some time ago, but when I have returned to it recently there does not seem to be a screw in the hole that I think is the jet adjustment point - I have tried a small slot headed screwdriver and a pozi, but nothing seems to"catch".

Is this the correct place for the adjustment?

Hi, the lifting pin is on the other side of the carb. Looped in blue in the photo below.

The mixture screw in inside the boss circled in red. The carb in the photo has its emissions plug still in. Remove that and you’ll find the mixture screw inside it. Turn the screw in to enrich the mixture, turn it out to lean out the mixture. HIF carb are the reverse of most when it comes to this.

Bear in mind your carb may be a mirror image of these.

those caps were a std fit to avoid twiddling with mixtures used by the many in the 70's
a poor attempt to improve emissions by blanking the adjuster
its just an anti twiddle device just dig it out and go on twiddling

Thanks for the pointers. When I did the adjustment previously I must have had the air filter off - that's why I couldn't work out where the adjustment was when I tried again! (That's my excuse anyway)

Made the mixture leaner, which immediately seemed to set the engine racing, and required quite a lot of adjustment for the tickover. We'll see how it goes over the next week or so.

If it idled faster after leaning out your mixture must’ve been quite rich. Sounds like you’re moving in the right direction
