I have purchased a temporary engine while I build the custom 2.2.

Can anyone explain to me the difference in how the later aluminum remote housed gear linkage mounts inside the car compared with my original series 1 bolted to the tunnel type.

If anyone can explain the changes needed to make the series 2 one fit I'd appreciate it.

The remote doesn't mount to the car at all, it mounts to the top of the gearbox. You just need the gearlever and all the associated parts that go with it. You may have to change the release bearing sleeve or the clutch pressure plate to get a matching pair.

Thanks, I was told I'd need to enlarge the hole in the gearbox tunnel but I've been told many different things. How come I'd need to change the release bearing sleeve ? Is the clutch different between the 2000 series 1 and series 2 ?

AFAIK the hole in the tunnel is in the same place, and the right size for the boot that comes up from underneath to fit it.
Early clutch covers and release sleeves were different to later ones, but you won't know what you have until it's all apart.

Yes obwent onto wadhams and had a look at the difference, part of me hopes it's the later one so I can send the new pressure plate ive bought for the rebuild back and buy the other one (it's £100 cheaper) it should be writing Friday so I will get it started and also see what's going on with the clutch it might not be the plates that are seized after all it way be hydraulics but we shall see.
