Evening all, new boy here.

A fortnight ago I found a 1971 3500 Auto in a barn just down the road from my house and I managed to buy it. It has not moved since being driven into the barn approx. 6 years ago, but a DVLA search says it was last taxed in 1984 !!

I have manage to free the brakes and start the engine and drive it up and down a short driveway, there is much to do.

Here she is as found.

I am struggling with the auto box oil level, have read the correct method and will post in tech for advice please.

Welcome to the forum. Looks a great project. If you want to assess condition early on, it's well worth pulling out the rear seats and looking at the condition of the inner sills. This will give you a decent clue as to the condition of the base unit!

Thanks Rich
I had the luxury of reading a buyers guide and access to the car before I bought it. I spent around 4 hrs checking. I jacked up and looked everywhere, took the rear seats out as you suggested.

I could find no rot at all on this first inspection, the car has not been on the road since 1984 according to the DVLA, I will chat more with the previous ( 2nd ) owner in due course.

Since I have removed the outer sill trims and I have a small area around the NSR jacking point on the outer sill to replace and a tiny hole on the OSR as well, not bad at all.

Cheers

Sounds like you have picked up a diamond and not one in the rough either, if there is so little rust surely the rest must be of a great standard too.

welcome to this informative and friendly forum.

Thank you

Everything on the car works, I have freed the brakes and will overhaul in due course. When I get the auto box fluid level sussed I am thinking of an MOT.

Unfortunately despite flushing the fuel tank the new fuel has activated tarry sludge in the bottom of the tank, I am now trying to clean this out.
