Rear suspension trailing arm dished washer

Hello, I'm about to re-assemble my rear suspension, the picture attached is how the dished washer was positioned when I dismantled it. My Haynes Workshop Manual isn't clear. Is the dished washer in the picture positioned correctly? It looks odd to me.

Also, When I dissmantled the trailing arm the larger bush was the higher one, connected with a bolt through the inside side wall of the boot. The smaller bush connected to the elbow that is connected to the De Dion Tube, Is this correct?

Any help appreciated.

The pic in the parts book only has a small washer, but yours looks around the same way. The book shows bush 670490 at the back, 558651 at the dedion end, but it doesnt show size...? Is this on a p6b (v8) with the kink in this rod - if so wont the kink show which way around the rod should be?

Hi, yes it's a p6b V8 1970, with a kink in the rod, the Haynes book shows a straight rod but states a dished washer in the fig listing. I could upload the haynes diagram but I'm unsure if that's allowed here.

I will see if I can see mine and come back to you. Looks like the wrinkle faces the nut, or, the hollow side faces the bush. Not very obvious but the wrinkle is apparent on the side that abscured ?Its also a lot closer to the bush than it appears in your pic?

If I flip the washer around it looks similar to yours, I'm going with that. I've found a few issues with this car regarding assembly, the worst being the rocker shaft was backward restricting oil flow so I have low trust re-assembling it the way I found it. Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Edit: and the bush and dished washer size match up to yours... so the large bush on the rear high and the slightly smaller bush on the elbow. Thanks again for your help. Steve.

Hello Bert,

Yes, that is correct. The larger bush is next to the boot, the smaller one with the de dion elbow. Be sure when you tighten the bolts that the car is on the ground and in its normal static position. If it isn't the larger bush in particular will be damaged once you drive the car. These bushes squirm with movement of the arm when you drive. The arm doesn't pivot as you might expect, hence the need to have it positioned correctly when you tighten the bolts.

Thanks Ron I appreciate the help, just waiting for the paint on the axles to cure a bit and install then I'll be at that stage. Cheers.
