Rear windscreen stainless steel trims

Hi all
I am currently working on my 1975 P6, final stage before taking it for a roadworthy. I have removed the rear windscreen and I am about to refit it. The reason for this is a previous owner replaced the rubber windscreen seal but left the stainless trims in the boot. I now know the trims must go on first.
My question being, do you need sealant between the trims and the body or do they go on to the body without, currently there is old sealant under the trims.
Much appreciated for any insight.

Cheers
Glen

you need a non setting sealant, available in Bunnings, Repco and Bursons for not too much. This is important so you can dismantle it in future years. and yeah, sealant on everything. wipe off excess when finished as it will dry in thin sections and be hard to remove later. While screen etc is out check the tail of the roof panel is closed against the frame lip all the way across at the top. If there is a gap (particularly in the middle) getting everything together is a right PITA. however if no gap its quite straightforward. note that all the lower fixing jacks and their supports were also covered in same gloop to keep the rust away. you do need to replace it, at least to seal the holes so water doesn't flow into the boot...If replacing the rubber seal between the glass and the outside rear deck panel, make sure you get one where its clearly stated that it will fit. Factory product doesn't sit flat...so NOS is out.

Thanks very much Mike
