Recommended tyre size

I run 185/80r14 on my 2000TC. Initially I used Vredenstein Sprint Classics. Great for the first three years, but became hard after that with scary wet weather performance. I’m now on my second set of Pirelli CN36 tyres. First set lasted about 6-7 years of use on road and track (pretty good considering I was still dialing in alignment after suspension mods). Second set on now, wearing much better now I’ve set pressures and alignments. They are expensive relative to others (US$209 each), but they handle and grip beautifully, have pretty good wet weather grip and the shoulder profile is more rounded than most modern tyres. Giving a more progressive change in grip to slip angle on track, almost like the old Dunlop L series tyres.

Tyres make such a different to a car’s behaviour, not to mention safety. I worry that isn’t given enough attention in discussions.
