Rover P7 story.

wow- jealousy from Jaguar killed a great move forward from Rover. Jaguar also killed the stunning new model Daimler SP251 as it would have taken from the E-type.

Yes, apparently when designing the XJ40 they got wind that the RV8 would be offered as well, so they brought the chassis rails where they met the transmission tunnel so close in the engine bay that the V8 couldn't be fitted. It also meant their V12 couldn't either, which was why their flagship V12 had to carry on in the XJ6/12 bodyshell.

I had heard that Triumph had the Rover mid-engined BS killed as it was significantly better than either the Triumph Stag or TR8.
What a ay to run a car manufacturing business

British Leyland was an ill thought out concept, they decided to bring the different brands together for economies of scale and ended up with the different brands competing with each other for market share. Jaguar especially didn't like the conventional and staid Rover having a potentially better performance product than them.
