WE all NEED a project i told her ,though i did not get the reply i wanted ,she used several words including, why, what for, bloomin crackers ,waste of money, sad old git, and some that cannot be repeated in civilised society. two days later my totally unneeded retirement project arrived on a trailer.
Bought totally unseen from a very nice chap on ebay who had imported the green beauty from Ireland. the p6 looked very sorry for its self and i smiled at the thought of having at least 4 years of tinkering and garage fun ahead, with absolutely no thoughts of the money pit that was likely to develop from my impulsive purchase. i thought i would join a club and post loads of photos of the upcoming restoration process, thus giving lots of like minded fools a great deal of pleasure.
overalls on ,up and at it , get the welder struck up,join the p6 owners club, send off the v55/5 , spanners sorted, cigs rolled, all ready for the marathon task.
now for the most devastatingly sad news any man ever had to impart to good old boys around the world.
......Every damn switch, light, motor, wiper, window winder, door lock, brake , clutch, engine, indicator, worked like a treat. well you can imagine the overwhelming disapointment rent upon a henpecked chap.
BUT THEN it would surely need tons and tons of welding , wouldnt it?.
i have followed other renovation blogs for the rover p6 that would test the patience of saints. some taking the required 4 or 5 glorious years..
Spirits soaring off come the cover cills, an avenue to cutting, chopping finger trapping, flame beating, foul choking fume heaven . AND there it was fabulous glorious pure unadulterated rust. scrape, scratch, grind, chisel ,and there appeared an area of rot the size of, now i wish i could say a small country BUT four hours later all the welding and patching was totally done ,finished ,ended.
So a warning to all shed and garage dwellers everywhere , never buy a car unseen cos it might not be what you think it is,
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.
