Fuel leak

I couldn't see if the tube had broken loose in the flange or it was leaking from the tube nuts/olives connection to the under floor pipe . If the latter, it may only need nipping up with a couple of spanners

You may well be right, the compression fitting might be lose on the tube, lets hope so for the OP's sake.

I doubt the nuts would come loose spontaneously, so my money is on the outlet pipe loose in the plate. Remove and resolder....

They can be tricky to get done up tight enough, so to avoid having to drain the tank, remove sender etc. I would try to tighten them up a bit first. It's only a matter of holding the lower fitting and getting a spanner on the top one, and could save a whole load of problems.

Thank you guys, i'm sure it is the pipe on the inside which has come loose. The two connections on the outside are tight and it all wobbles around and you can just tell it is what those connections are attached to which is moving

Thanks for the pics and info. When i get chance i will get under there and get things out to have a look

Right, i need to do more work on this car or on a more regular basis

Around April last year the first job i had to do after buying the car was drain and remove the tank to clean out rusty deposits. So i was familiar with how these pipes connected. A year later i assume i still am familiar but it turns out i wasn't.

I thought both the hex type heads screwed upwards from below which i now know is wrong. What i think happened is the upper nut had become loose and my fiddling (thinking i was tightening it) made it worse and look like the whole thing was broken from the inside

My eureka moment came when i looked closer and remembered how they work

I now have non-leaking pipes

Thanks for your help :D

Always best to try the easiest fix first.

I can remember back in the day, a friend of mine asked me to help him rebuild his carb for him. We got a rebuild kit, stripped it down, cleaned it all, and rebuilt it and off he went happy. The following week he turned up asking if I could help rebuild his alternator. I asked him why, and he replied that it wasn't charging, and the carb rebuild didn't work either as it was still overheating

It was at this very moment, that I started to ask why, instead of just helping, so I tightened his very slack fan belt and off he went, happy.
