Apart from Ebay, is there anywhere to buy cams, followers, rings, bearings, oil pumps and other stuff that wears out - at a sensible price.

Are the old style 10.5 cams still available, or even desirable with todays petrol??

real steel, rpi, v8tuner are 3 websites i know of.

Also worth checking landrover sites and rimmerbros.

The 3.5 cam is ok, but you can get a power hike by buying a standard 3.9 cam, which is probably cheaper than the 3.5

Hi Hensen,

There were only two camshafts fitted into P6B engines according to the Parts book. They define them as for early and late models, so I suspect that refers to series 1 and series 2 models. That being the case, there would have been no specific cam for 10.5 : 1 engines, rather the camshafts fitted would also appear on 9.25 : 1 and the low compression circa 8.3 : 1 engines.

These camshafts also had a duration of 285 degrees whereas today all the factory camshafts as fitted into Land / Range Rovers have a duration of around 265 degrees. Combined with profile changes, the engine will perform much better in the low to mid rpm range.

You can also source aftermarket camshafts from different suppliers. Rimmer Bros, Real Steel, John Eales are but three who can provide all that you require.

Many thanks, but got a bit lost there. Are you saying the older 285 degrees or the newer 265 degrees will perform better ??

Hi Hensen,

The 265 degree camshaft will perform better down low and into the mid range. Generally speaking, the longer the camshaft duration, the higher the engine must rev in order for the camshaft to start to perform.

If you have an automatic transmission, then the shorter duration is much better. If on the other hand you have a manual transmission and you like to really rev the engine, then you might prefer a camshaft with a longer duration, say 280 or 285 degrees.

Ron.
