Crankshaft oil thrower question

Hi all, I know there is a crank oil thrower on my rope seal engine, but was looking through my engine bits from my dismantled 76' engine with front and rear oil seals, and could not find it, I can't remember if there was one on it when I took it apart as it was quite a while ago now, but as I am at the balancing stage of my 76' rebuild and thought to supply the bits required for balancing along with the oil thrower my question is... (seeing as I can't remember taking one off or finding one)
Do the oil seal fitted engines have a oil thrower or was it just fitted for the rope seal engines???
I' m tending to think that it should have one to throw the oil around the timing chain etc, but if I can confirm that I need to have one then I will have to procure one for balancing,
Thanks,

Hi Scott,

It is my understanding that the primary function of the oil thrower was to reduce the volume of oil that would reach the rope seal, thus minimising the possibility of leaks. Later engines that came with the neoprene seals had the thrower omitted. The oil thrower off my original engine was fitted onto the nose of my 4.6 crankshaft with no ill effects. Additional lubrication for the timing chain is never going to be a negative issue.

Ron.

Thanks Ron, I was thinking that the thrower was there for rope seal engines as you say to minimise the amount of oil towards the rope seal, I recall the last chap of the 76' spares car saying he took the cover off to use the skew gear from the camshaft to use on another engine so he would have stripped the front end and as I have all the bits from the front end in a container, if there was a thrower then it would have been with the rest of them, but as I don't have one then likely as you say there was never one fitted for the oil seal fitted engines, so i shall not worry about a thrower and can balance without it.
Thanks
