Sorry I initally put this as a reply in another thread ...

Hi, I'm Rob and I was told about this forum by a fellow "ebayer".

My car is a 2000TC, first reg 1973, which I've owned since September 2001. Originally its been finished in Mexico Brown, although I decided on a colour change shortly after I bought the car, as it was in need of a light restoration anyway.

I was pleased when I bought this car, it was very original, and had all the history going right back to day one, and had only had 2 main owners, with another "couple of 3 month wonders" with failed intentions of doing the car up. But the main thing was, the base unit and interior were in astonishing condition, and the icing on the cake was when the heritage centre informed me that "regretfully I would no longer be able to purchase a tax disc" (their words!) as the car was actually manufactured Dec 29th 1972. Result!

I'm currently doing a bit of recommissioning work as the car has been stored for a couple of years. Nothing more than a few minor storage dents on the body, and a bit of paint flaking off the bonnet. I've got my fingers crossed re. the rear brakes! The engine isn't in bad nick, its had the timing chains and cylinder head overhauled before I got it, but it would probably benefit from re-shelling. The twin SU's give a fairly lumpy idle, but even back in the day these were hard to get right, on any car which had done a few miles.

If anyone is interested, I did a simple website showing my resto, which is here :- http://www.autoden.freeserve.co.uk/cars/p6/rebuild.htm

Cheers

Welcome, great story :)

Hope you get back on top of it. There's plenty of help on here re the carbs and you will soon have it purring as it should

4 litres of build primer  9 litres of top coat    My god! thats a shed load of paint, at NZ prices you would make more money selling the paint than the finished car  But a lovely result, do you have any more larger pictures (800 x 600) of the completed car, your website ones are a bit of a tease, the richelieu colour looks stunning on your website bottom right picture.

Thanks everyone for the words of welcome. It was quite a bit of paint, but the old Devilbiss I used is a high pressure gun so you do waste loads compared with a HVLP setup. But I did have to totally re-do the two biggest panels. Luckily for me cellulose paint was pretty cheap back in 2002! I like the colour too, it was a toss up between that and cameron green.

I can't get to that website now as freeserve is now a thing of the past. But I will post some pictures on photobucket or flickr, I think they will allow reasonable resolutions. Its stood up quite well really, for nearly 10 years since I did it. There's a bit of rust bubbled through on the bottom on the passenger door, and a dent in the bootlid where something has been dropped against it. Oh and a bit of flaking on the bonnet.

The main thing I need to do is get the engine running more smoothly. Considering the bottom end is worn also, I've seen a good 2200 single carb engine which I'm considering dropping in. With its lower compression, I think this might cope better with low octane fuel, and I don't think there should not be any major changes needed, just a different exhaust downpipe, and a few bits of linkage and cable mods. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!! :D . The other option is overhaul my 2000TC head and fit to the 2200 bottom end, I'm still left with the worn/hard to tune HS8's, but at least I'd have the lower compression.

Cheers
