Hi new 2000tc owner Lancashire

Thanks for accepting me on this forum, I got my 1970 2000tc about two weeks ago from a friend who owns a garage, he’d been trying to sell it me since he bought it in may but I wasn’t in a position to buy it after 2 heart attacks and a double heart bypass in January , I’d been off work for few months, anyway I’m recovered and working as normal again now , it was in his way at the garage, was being moved in and out everyday onto the car park so they could get cars in to work on, he was still trying to sell it so I offered him a swap for a motorbike which he accepted. It’s been a while since I’ve had a classic car and I’ve been looking on eBay for a bit but needed to get some things out of my garage to make room , ive been restoring motorbikes for the last 10 years and got a bit bored of it having done quite a few
I’ve always been a rover fan having previously owned a p6b and p5b so I’m really pleased for this to come into my possession. It has the makings of a very nice car
it has never been welded and is remarkably rust free , the paint is poor so I’m planning on repainting it, taught myself to paint during lockdown after my friend who used to do it sold his Bodyshop, I really enjoy painting. The interior which is in good condition with good original carpets and nice and dry is let down by the leather which someone of debatable talent had a go at recolouring , I think it’s the wrong colour , looked more like sandalwood or biscuit to me originally, any comments or help would be appreciated, the door cards looked to match before it was done.
So far I’ve done a few jobs, the boot was 2inch deep in water when I collected it, so had everything out and dried it, it’s not rotten under the decker panel so I’m assuming it’s going to be the filler cap seal, got to do a water check yet, temp sender needed replacing drivers door lock didn’t work, ariel and interior mirror loose, spare wheel was missing a bracket so sourced that and general cleaning and polishing
I’ve got clutch judder so will be investigating the engine and gearbox mounts, it did have quite a bit of oil underneath the engine and gearbox so I suspected rear main seal or gearbox seal at first but I’ve noticed the rocker cover seal needs replacing and It Looks like it’s been running down the block and possibly been blown all over whilst travelling, keeping my eye on it after the clean, I’ve also got a blowing exhaust around the manifold so will be removing the exhaust and carbs to investigate this, been trawling this forum for last couple of weeks so I am expecting the manifold is cracking worse case scenario as well as replacing copper sealing rings and inlet gaskets, could also point to my worn mountings theory. It’s pinking a bit too so once I’ve got exhaust problem resolved I will be doing a service, compression and valve check, timing check and carb tune, should be a doddle after doing quad carbs on bikes! I’m hoping to become an active member on here……..Geoff

Welcome. Looks a great project, with a Solihull number plate too. Seats were probably Buckskin, which goes light beigey grey when it's faded, so it could be that a past owner was trying to match the faded colour it had become. Good luck and have fun.

Hi, think I looked at this car earlier this year in Burnley, had been in Africa ?
Must say it looked a very solid car. Unfortunately I am no painter, so passed.
I bet you get it looking great.
Good luck, I am in Wigan so not too far, may see you out in the summer .
Howard

Thanks John , I will try and find some non faded leather before I start , I hadn’t picked up on the registration either. Hi Howard , its a small world isn’t it. I had a look back at new members posts and wondered if you had bought the green series 2, remembered it being in Wigan. Looks very nice good luck with it, John had picked up on my car being factory registered. I don’t think it actually got abroad After having read the paperwork , looks like it was bought from the factory by a dealers in Nigeria, the chap who bought it worked in Nigeria for BP, it was delivered to London airport , I presume he collected it on his return from working abroad and maybe saved some taxes purchasing it out there.
my friend who owns the garage said a few had passed due to the paint. I don’t want to take it off the road so will be doing a panel at a time once I’ve got it mechanically better and it’s too cold too paint now really , hopefully we could see each other over the summer

Hi Geoff
Yes the green series 2 is mine. Only had it a few weeks, needs rear brakes doing, so waiting for warmer weather, doing some smaller jobs.
Keep us updated on progress.

Welcome.
It probably was buckskin, as is ours, I've just ordered new leather seat covers (for a spare set of front seat, will keep the originals) from Lseat in the US. Their ivory colour seemed closest but the leather is quite heavily embossed. For that reason ordered dark red piping as a lark. When/ If the covers arrive will do a review. At US$389 for a pair of covers they seemed almost too good to be true, buyer beware.
