Hi all.

I did buy a rover, I had one years ago but want it again and so I did. The car is a 3500S serie, and has no rust, interior looks like new, not sun cracks, and
the is for all the parts of the car, bottom and sills are as new, it is included with a lot of spare parts, like gearbox, clutch and hood. But the engine is a high compression type so I do not now if I get trouble with modern gasoline. putting in lpg do solve this.

The 10.5:1 engine is fine on 98 unleaded. You can take out a couple of degrees of advance if you have problems.

I have somewhere a electronic ignition system wit display,, it is mentioned for program the ignition advances into it, I can even do it while driving.

It has also a LPG gas setup, this is a advanced special for LPG what is different as petrol. IT switch automatically when set car on LPG.

It is a micro controller system for 1 to 8 or more cylinders.

Here is the bottom of the car, on a garage bridge to see all stuff, no real rust, but looks like gearbox is not engine connected, bolds are gone..ScreenHunter 67.jpg

I think it was removed for a purpose, the motor is present, and I did see a new clutch and gearbox was was with the car and a lot other parts and interior like boot and leader seats. As I remember is that part where the bolds are gone not a metal cover plate in these rovers?

Possible the owner was not able to do the repair.

For the rest, car is as new what concern rust. and inside it is like in a showroom. So it was a good buy I hope.

There should be a steel plate cover on the bottom of the bellhousing - 4x1/4" UNC bolts horizontal into bellhousing , 2 5/16" UNF vertical into the block. part 591485.

Yes I did also thought that.

Here are the spare parts I have also with the buy, two pallest full stuf, including a gearbox and new clutch, possible this is a SD1 version so I need to look.ScreenHunter 73.jpg

I have the question about lpg gas, I do want to build in the rover p6 V8. what is needed on the carburators, have somewone a picture of that? I did see on the materials I need two mixers and a kind of ring, also two.

it is like in the pic.

Hi All

tomorrow the rover get delivered, then looking better at all shortcomings. Car is from 1976 and is stored in 1981 inside a dry place. so it is not active for many years, motor is free and has perfect compression, is tested.

There are a lot parts with it, and I do not now from what, it looks that also TC rovers are stripped in parts.

The gearbox has a number as on pic. It looks like type 2 but I am not shure.

That number on the gearbox is just a casting number, not a gearbox number that's back closer to the oil pump plate.

The rover is now here, pay the guy and am now a proud owner. Now have inspect, all is solid, no rust, and the interior is like new and also the windows, as new, above the wheels on front, the body protecting is as new, known places for rust is complete solid. Just a little hole in sill below the protection plate where the tapping screws where.

However the steering do nothing, can this be because the oil is out of the steering support pump.

I need to push the car onto mine property, and this is not possible now because wheels stay on same place, oil is tapped from support maybe oil in it and driver the pump with a drill or something.

I have now a lot of seats and other stuff for sale, or exchange them for LPG parts except tank itself, that need new incl the
gas evaporator for a V8. Afcouse it is only for dutch members because shipping is expensive and not interesting.

I have check the engine, it has oil spillage over it, I did read that the valve covers will leak sometimes, oil pollution is special above the water pump, it is dried up in the years, check the rust, all is hard, no holes and other problems, but there is rust present in
initial stages, need to remove body protection there. Nice healthy car.

But after store it from 1981 in a dry barn, it need technically repaired, al oils where tapped.

I did also have the manuals, these are the originals so no books of lie.

Car is now inside so I can start examinate the damages done because of so long inactive live of rover.. I can roll it by the way.

Hi There

Did make some pictures of the engine bay, looks like I need much cleaning.

Engine is tested by the old owner and has all the compression it needs to have.

The rust you see everywhere is because of no use for years and was stalled in a barn.

The batterie tray is rotten, I think I can restore it easily. This is normal after so much years
in that time accu was not yet closed types.

regards

Hello @kees66. I haven't seen a metal battery box in a P6 before. Not much left of that one, anyway! I've had a couple of these cars and mine always had a battery box and lid made out of some sort of hard black plastic.
While you are fixing your power steering, I think you will probably need one new hose. In your third photo above the hose looks as if it is leaking, and an attempt has been made to repair it with some red tape, and a hose clamp. I am not really familiar with the power steering hoses on left hand drive P6s, but I think this is the high pressure hose from the pump to the steering box. So I doubt it is really possible to patch up a leak anywhere along that hose. I took my old steering hoses to a hydraulic repair company who mostly worked on dump trucks, bulldozers, cranes and the like. They had no trouble replicating it.

Hi Mrtask, you are right that is the high pressure hose, what is tried to be repaired by the previous owner. I have to search to find that hose or have to lat make a new one, there are company,s how do this, like hydraulic professionals.

Here she can make it, and send it.

Now I need also a repair kit voor steerbox and pump, I did see these are still available.

I have now remove some parts like the heater, break cylinder and now busy with the steering box.

It is a nice job, and I can see now how good or not the car is below the heater where also rot can be there with water
in the car as a result. It is very nice rust-free (only some surface rust).

Step by step cleaning and remove (surface) rust from the heater housing.

For now the car is in a high quality state. Only some questions, this car is from 1976, but the breaks are single type.

So I question myself if this car is not older?DSCN5526.JPGDSCN5528.JPGDSCN5536.JPGDSCN5538.JPG
