I hope everyone is enjoying the hottest day of the decade!
My V8 is now running very sweetly indeed! Thank you Jim for setting me straight on the difference between vacuum advance and dwell. I now understand why you wound in the dwell adjuster when you fitted the petronix ignition system...
Sorry not to reply for so long on this thread!
First, Harvey, an unintentional slight to you over use of the term "chap'! Thank you for your advice.
Second, Jim, I have PM'd you. Thanks for posting.
I guess I have confused vacuum advance with dwell. I assumed that winding the adjuster shut...
Good evening all,
I have a petronix ignitor system replacing the points in the distributor in my 1974 3500 auto. The chap who fitted it declared the vacuum advance redundant and wound the adjuster drew shut on the dizzy. This was nearly a year ago, and the car has run OK but not as well as I...
I've really fancied a platinum VIP for years and never seen a decent one for sale… until now!
It really does look lovely, and just wonder if it's as good as it looks...
Hi fellow enthusiasts,

This looks pretty tasty to me, if a little expensive! Does anyone out there know the car?
Hi Jim,
I have tried to PM but it won't move from my outbox! Is your inbox full perhaps? Yes I have a 3500 auto and am interested in your Petronix…! :D
John
Thanks for the comments so far. Rockdemon, I guess I was looking at something to just replace points and condenser, not whole dizzy. Money is an issue... Lumenition sounds good, any views on Powerspark?
In the course of trying to solve my fueling/vapour lock issues (see my previous topic), I have decided to renew my coil, ditch the points and condenser, and go for electronic ignition.
I would really welcome any advice on which system/brand to go for...
Thanks,
John
Thanks for the comments so far.
I have checked the coolant flow from the tower, and it's good and strong. Interesting to hear of someone else with this same problem, Quagmire! How did you solve it or are you still suffering?
Could that one tank of fuel be at fault, or is it just co-incidence...
Good evening all!
Some of you will remember that I was re-united with my previously-owned 1974 almond 3500 auto two years ago. The car had developed an occasional, and then progressively more regular, running problem. Once warm and switched off for anything from 20 minutes to a couple of hours...
Hi Ron,
Thanks for that info. I guess my question is really, why did the spec of the HIF6 change from AUD521 to 623? I assume it was to do with the lower compression of the post '73 V8's ? Would my low-comp V8 run well with a good pair of standard AUD521 HIF's, or do I HAVE to change the...
