Roof Panel Removal

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and new to Rover P6 ownership. In fact my car is still at the mechanics as we speak getting the major issues sorted out before I register it and drive it for the first time. The only bit of rust on my car (so far) seems to be in the roof panel (rear corner). The car currently has a vinyl roof and full length sunroof. I have access to a car someone is breaking for scrap and I'm planning to remove the roof to replace mine. Then I may restore my original roof down the track (or sell for parts). My question is, what procedure is involved to remove the roof? I realise the lining needs to come out... but do I need to remove the chrome trims too?? A detailed description would be amazing... and any potential hurdles I may face (drilling rivets, rusted screws, ripping lining, etc... and how to overcome these issues would be great too. Don't want to damage the chrome getting it off so any advice there would be good too.

I've done basic work on my cars... but this seems a bit daunting to me, so any help or advice would be really appreciated. P.S. I will begin to post pics and a progress report once I get the car on my driveway. :)

Unfortunately it refers to a number of other operations, but its a start. Can scan more if requested to.

Good luck

If you have a look at lesson ten in this post of mine from last year it should help

Thanks for all the replys... that sort of info is gold for me right now!! The car is an hour's drive from home... so it's great to know what sort of tools I'll need. How long do you think it'll take with me working on my own? I'm the type to do things slow and steady, and not get stuck in.
