You might want to consider a retrim in new leather/vinyl. Colin Gould at Kingsdown Classics (01367 240476) has some good contacts who will repair, part or fully retrim to your own spec. Not as expensive as you might think.
Fortunately I have a spare BW35 box which also came from a series 1 3500 so I am able to compare it with the one on the car.
The front band seems to have a lot of adjustment left in it but I have no idea what the condition of the rest of the box is like.
I'm tempted to strip the spare box...
Result, welcome back 2nd gear - band not broken after all.
Probably won't work for long given that the adjuster is right at the end of its travel.
Next question - how easy is it to change the front band?
Which is the best manual to get hold of?
Dave
OK Harvey, the front servo is the early type with adjuster.
The gap which is supposed to be 1/4 inch was about 3/4 inch.
I can get the adjustment to 1/4 inch but only at the limit of travel on the adjusting screw.
Have you come across this situation before?
Is it possible that the band has...
Hi, Question for Harveyp6.
I have a series one 3500 with a BW35 box. Unfortunately I seem to have lost 2nd gear entirely.
When engaged in D and accelerating normally I can get it to shift up from 1st if I back off the throttle otherwise it will stay in 1st.
However the upshift goes direct into...
To answer the question regarding currrent ride height:
The height to the center of the bottom link mounting is 330mm.
However, this is with wheel centre to the ground distance of 285mm (65% profile tyres) so the springs are a tad stiffer than standard.
Good point.
The ramp was lowered so that the car's weight was taken on a prop placed under the vertical arm. Then the shock absorber was disconnected and the car raised again.
I wasn't happy with the condition of my dash top so I bought an offcut of black leather from ebay and recovered it myself.
Looks good and cost £9 in material.
I was toying with the idea of using black leather with a crocodile skin imprint.............
Less said the better.
JRW were not my first choice but Ian Wilson (Rover Classics) had sold out.
Yes the new springs are shorter, however, with my bodyweight (ca. 80kg) I was able to compress the old spring by about an inch - I couldn't compress the new spring at all. So you are correct, the rate of the new spring is...
The bushes looked a bit ratty at the edges but it seems that they very rarely fail. I was also told that while the outer bushes aren't too difficult the inner bushes are a swine to do - even for the professionals. So I left them all alone.
During the job I also put new shockers on, changed the...
This is a job which I wanted to do but was inhibited by the well reported difficulty. This is how the professionals do it!!..............
Last Friday I took on the dreaded spring change on my 1968 Series 1 3500 with Colin Gould at Kingsdown Classics.
The whole job was done on my car in one day...
Thank you, are you able to share any of this information?
I would be interested to know any details regarding the original colour, trim level, and whether it was actually exported.
When was it registered on the database and when did membership lapse?
Regards.
The car is curreuntly being rebuilt in the UK.
Not sure if it ever made it out of the country - a Heritage Certificate might tell me.
The car has a P6ROC sticker on the windscreen so there might be some record of previous ownership in the P6ROC files.
The Reg No. is YXC 361F
Hi, There is a rumour that the above chassis number belonged to the first P6 3500 off the production line and that it was used by Lord Stokes as his company car for a time - can anyone verify this? Are there any previous owners in the P6ROC?
