    Respray in a non-original colour

Thanks for the replies! The reason I am slightly reluctant to just get it resprayed is that the car is a very original, 3 owners from new including myself, 32,000 miler. Unfortunately it had been stored somewhere where the sun was allowed to both dry out and bleach out the interior, plus...

How do you remove the sidelights?

Yes, sorry, the question was about how to take the body out - figured out how to unbolt it but not how or where the connectors for the wires are. That'll be the front sorted, does anybody know where the connector for the rear lights is?

    Respray in a non-original colour

Well, I'm slowly working my way around my P6, going from mostly solid but somewhat neglected to 'nice user' in the process. Currently busy sorting out the interior - mostly dried out leather and dirt, plus it'll want new carpets at one point - and when that's done, the last big remaining job is...

How do you remove the sidelights?

After noticing lots of condensation in both rear lights and the front sidelights I've given in an bought a good set of front sidelight lenses and rear light lenses, plus all new foam gaskets - both the glass against light cluster and cluster against bodywork. Fitting the former is easy -...

    Fuel vaporisation problem

It appears that I finally figured out what the problem with my P6 cutting actually is - as mentioned here before my initial thoughts were the autobox being on the way out. As I had to get some other work done anyway I asked Ely Services to have a look at the gearbox. They didn't really find...

    Which electronic ignition?

Thanks guys - is that the Optronic (with the external module) or the magnetronic that just fits inside the distributor?

    Which electronic ignition?

Good morning, I was looking at improving the original Lucas distributor on my car somewhat by fitting electronic ignition - the plan is to fit one that's completely hidden by the dizzy cap. Which AFAIK means it's got to be either the Lumenition Magnetronic or the Aldon Igniter module...

    Autobox clucked?

No, it didn't do the "high revs but nobody's home" bit. Instead it judders badly at low revs, as if it's trying to overcome some internal friction/jamming in the gearbox. If it doesn't, the engine will die. The whole set of ignition parts is about 1k miles old - condenser, contact breaker...

    Autobox clucked?

I did check the fluid this morning - looks like the level is about right (didn't have time for a more thorough check). Doesn't smell burnt either, but it is brown and not the expected "red" colour. No apperant water contamination, nor did I pull out half the 'box clutching to the dipstick...

    Autobox clucked?

I wouldn't call my modernish car a bland box, and neither should you before you even know what it is. That aside, I don't like driving the P6 around London during the rush hour. If you can call crawling down the A40 and the M25 at speeds measured by metres/hour "driving". It doesn't do it any...

    Autobox clucked?

Hrmpf. I had to take the P6 out last week in the atrocious weather as the non-classic car was away being fixed. Drove about 100 miles - the car was generally running right, although a bit hot. Since it's had a new radiator it seems to be leaking a bit of coolant. Oops, nevermind - topped up...

That'll be the source of the damp mouldy smell ... - Can anyone recommend a welder?

PeterB76 - I was aware of their existence, but had hoped I could find someone a bit more local. AFAIK they are in Ely and I'm looking at about 1.5 hours to get there and sod knows how long back on the train... Ah well, I'll do a bit more digging around the car this weekend and see how many...

Wanted - door cards, other interior odds & sods

In order to make progress with the interior damage caused by duff window seals (not to mention a few small holes in the floor), I need a few good secondhand interior parts. Most urgently, I'm after a complete set of unwarped door cards in good condition; some of the interior chrome also needs...

That'll be the source of the damp mouldy smell ... - Can anyone recommend a welder?

Further to my last post about the browncaps in the footwell :( I investigated a little bit more. The passenger side carpet was a little bit damp, the underlay a little more so. Furious carpet-lifting showed exactly what I dreaded - a small patch of daylight near the floor/inner sill area...

Been to the pub by the looks of it - Car listing to the right

Dropped the car off at Cliff's now - he thinks it's probably a duff spring. Should know more later today or tomorrow. While chatting to Cliff he mentioned that he was moving the workshop somewhere out to Suffolk?

Been to the pub by the looks of it - Car listing to the right

After going quiet for some time (I was working on the car a bit, honest), I just wanted to quiz the collective wisdom before I bring the car to a specialist[1]. Ever since I got the car it's been listing to the right - the rear right wheelarch is noticeably closer to the tarmac compared to...

Cold V8 - lack of heat

I have to agree with the webmaster - when I got my P6 (also a V8) it took ages until a lukewarm wind originated from the heater. Took out the 'stat, and it was stuck open by a minimal amount - just 1mm or so, but that was enough to have the water circulating. Another possible scenario that I've...
