    P6B - heater not working

Hi All, Now I've started to use my P6 in the cold - I've realised my heater isn't working. The 2 speed fan works a treat either in the demist or interior position, but it just blows cold the whole time. Any ideas / pointers on where to start. Thanks, Steve

Rumbling from front suspension / brakes??

Hi All, I've now changed the tyres for modern Goodyears, and the sound has quietened down considerably It's still there slightly but has reduced in volume. I'll put some miles on the car and report back for future readers! Cheers, Steve

Fuel Pump issues and fuel gauge

To further update this thread, I fitted a new fuel tank sender purchased from John Wadhams (for the 4 cylinder cars, V8 ones are no longer available apparently) and it all works perfectly, shows FULL when the tank is actually full. Cheers, Steve

    Fuel Smells

Gents, I’m experiencing fuel smells in the cabin with my P6 3500. I removed the tank, replaced the sender and the two filler hose pipes, and it still smells in the boot. Opening the window as your driving along seems to suck the fumes back in the car. Can anyone give me any pointers on how...

1974 P6B - Gearbox whine and no drive

Thanks Chris, I'll await more advice. Me and auto boxes tend not to mix (and by fate all of my cars are autos  ) The whining noise is more of a high pitched "whizz" linked to engine revs. More pertinent information - the car is low mileage and looks like was last MOT'd in 2001 (and has...

Rumbling from front suspension / brakes??

Hi Chris, Thanks for taking the time to reply. To answer some of your ideas; Interior Fan is off. No power steering. The alterantor bearings' are a bit noisy from cold, but it's a different noise. The noise in question really is right from stand still, (i'd expect noisy tyres to be more at...

Rumbling from front suspension / brakes??

Hi All, As an update to this topic, I changed both front wheel bearings, discs and calipers with new pads (all were past their best) and the noise is still there! Any other ideas? its' deffinately a rotating noise that gets louder the faster you go, but can change "pitch" over different road...

1974 P6B - Gearbox whine and no drive

Hi all, I have a problem with my 1974 P6B V8. Took the car for a drive this morning, happily driving at about 30mph and I noticed an engine speed dependant whine from the engine or gearbox. Stopped the car, checked under the bonnet = all was fine, jumped back in the car and put in gear no soft...

Fuel Pump issues and fuel gauge

Thanks Stan, that’s really helpful. Can anyone tell me where the voltage regulator physically is? And does it control more than one instrument - what is 111 in your diagram? (everything else is working fine – except the clock…) I can check the voltage output from the voltage regulator to the...

Fuel Pump issues and fuel gauge

Hi All, As an update to this thread, I rebuilt the fuel pump with a kit from Rover Classics. Straight forward enough, fitted it back on the car and no leaks - perfect! Fuel Gauge - jacked the car up this evening underneath with a multimeter - the green cable I presume should be constant 12v...

    Early LPG gas conversion V8

Morning All, I fitted an LPG kit to my P5B - different under the bonnet with a bit more room, but you get the idea. Its' a relatively easy kit to install and setup as long as you're mechanically minded and methodical. The engine runs better on LPG than on petrol, slightly down on power (LPG...

Rumbling from front suspension / brakes??

Hi Ron, I've only had the P6 two weeks, and it's covered just over 31,000 miles - tyres were fitted by the previous owner. I did a 60-mile round trip yesterday so slowly getting used to what I've bought... :D Pics from yesterday; The sound is only coming from the passenger side...

Rumbling from front suspension / brakes??

Thanks for the pointer gents, Tyres are all new, but a cheapy brand. I'll jack it up again tomorrow and have a good route around. I have new bearings so will change it anyway and see if it goes away... Cheers, Steve

Rumbling from front suspension / brakes??

Gents, Finally getting the time to go through my newly acquired 1974 3500 auto. There is what I can only describe as a rumble from the front passenger side wheel, I thought it would be a wheel bearing but it's a constant noise, doesn't change in pitch the faster you go, and doesn't change...

Fuel tank capacity - how many miles?

Thanks Dave, would be nice to have a rough figure on mileage per tank for the time being. 25mpg is very impressive (its' all relative!) my P5B would struggle to 18-19mpg I would have thought (I fitted LPG which certainly helps though!) I have just built a 496 cu in stroker V8 for another...

Fuel tank capacity - how many miles?

Gents, My fuel gauge is not working at the moment; I need to do a bit of investigating - and probably replace or mend the Sender. In the meantime whilst I run the full tank of petrol down - in owners experience how many miles am I likely to get for mixed motorway / town driving. If it's 15...

    Restoration Ramps

Hi All, I was looking for a similar solution as I constantly seem to be jacking up one car or another. I wanted something to make my life easier and somewhat safer (I've had a few slips incidents with trolley jacks in the past) I originally looked at CJ autos "wind-up" ramps, but decided to...

    Introduction!

Thanks Graeme, I've only driven the P6 home, it was a complete impulse buy so I wasn't quite in "car buying mode" :D Pic of the P5B – about 2 months ago, just finished resto (except they're never really finsihed are they?!!) Cheers, Steve

Fuel Pump issues and fuel gauge

Hi all, Hope I'm putting this post in the correct forum? I’ve just purchased a 1974 P6 auto, and a few problems arose on the way home. 1. The mechanical fuel pump is leaking quite badly (and from where it’s taken off the underseal on the front cross member it’s been leaking for a while) it...

    Introduction!

Hi all, I’ve just been perusing the forum, and thought I’d jump in! I’ve just purchased a great condition very low mileage 1974 P6 auto at auction, to compliment my P5B saloon and a few other 60’s classics (Jensens) What a cracking driving car the P6 is? The journey home was suberb, a few...
