Anyone got a tie rod for a 3500s that has a decent balljoint? (Not bothered about the bush!) I am rebuilding my front suspension and need one ASAP... Ideally in the south west. cash waiting. or I have a few spares for swapsies. Cheers Tim

    Power Steering conversion.

I want to convert my 3500s to PAS. When I broke up a donor car for panels to restore it I took everything I thought I could need to do the job. My Question is ... Are the steering dampers the same on the manual steering cars as on the PAS cars, as its the only bit i cant find in my garage! Hope...

LPG KIT WANTED - NOT GIVING THE GOV'T ANY MORE!!

I hope you are going to make a flash double filler neck decker panel like the one I`ll be fitting! I have seen new kits on ebay for around £400 but then you`ll have to get it signed off to get insurance. I found Autogas as mentioned in the above link helpful when I spoke to them on the phone. My...

    Front Windscreen Rubbers

Right! Now that the forum is back I can start asking all sorts of daft questions again! I too am about to replace my front screen. The Rubber seal that goes around the sides and top looks to be ok, but what I need is the foamy draft excluder thype material which goes inside the screen at the...

    V8 fuel/overheating?

one last thought! If the guage is accurate, then if air is being drawn in to the fuel (through a leaky fuel line) in tiny bubbles, then the engine will be running lean and hotter than it should. My car behaved exactly like yours did re the temperature guage and it never overheated but as the...

    V8 fuel/overheating?

dont necessarily worry about where the needle is too much! The guages arent that accurate. 10 minutes running will get the coolant quite hot you are best opening the bonnet and checking that both the top and bottom hoses on the rad are getting warm as well as both the smaller hoses that go...

    V8 fuel/overheating?

I had similar problems with mine. It sounds to me like you have a slight leak in your fuel lines. Everybody told me it would be the pump as the lines dont give trouble. however the pipe between the fuel filter and the carbs had a tiny leak which allowed air in but no fuel out so no sign of it...

Reading your original post again.... You will be ok wont you, just fit the pair. not just one side. Tim

bottom link - bottom link swap

I think I remember being told when my suspension collapsed that the bottom links from a 3500 or S have a kink in them to clear the wider tyres so both would fit, but then your wheels might not!! Hope this helps Tim

    New project (no not convertible)

Nice Trike but nobody on the forum has given you a hard time about lack of progress on the convertible. I feel it is my duty to do so. Come on. Chop Chop! You should be able to finish it by xmas!! PS its taken me over a year to fix the speedo on my S...!

    New convertible project - Update

Have you read Practical Performance Car this month. A good artical on mating "Foreign" gearboxes to engines. Worth a read.

DE-DION TUBE - Graunching noise when laden

The upper links (from the de dion to the back of the car) are supposed to be bent on the v8s to clear the tyres. on the lesser models they are straighter. perhaps you have the wrong type or one has been damaged (straightened) if the elbow has collapsed or a prang.? swap the upper links from your...

    LT77

If its an S not an auto then I would advise that you remove the existing gearbox mounting brackets from the trans tunnel. It really is quite a tight fit and every little helps. this will also let you use the drive for the speedo by cutting a hole for the cable to com through. I got hold of a...

Collapsing Rear suspension - Not a good day.

Difficult one to answer this, as I have never driven another p6! I think i would say fairly easily if you provoke it. but quite progressively if you dont. It is now on 195/70/14 dunlop sports, which were a lot lot lot more progressive than the no name 185s it had when I bought it. these...

Collapsing Rear suspension - Not a good day.

Thought you all might like to know that I am now back on the road! bought a pair of DeDion elbows from Richard at P6spares. (top bloke by the way) they had already been strengthened around both the top and bottom link mounts. they were a bit rusty so I had them blasted and powder coated. filled...

    De Dion Tube greasing

Back to the De dion tubes. Mine is a grease filled one. I cant see any oil seals on it, apart from the furry thing at the gaiter end. no sign of any rubber seals. I have a spare lying about now (since my suspension collapsed) also grease filled and no sign of any rubber seals. Are they both...

    De Dion Tube greasing

Speaking to a local mechanic who is used to working on P6s, he reccomended Vaseline rather than grease for the tube. Not sure I agree, but he said grease attacks the synthetic bushes. I would have thought that Vaseline would do the same, and attack the rubber gaiter, and not offer the same...

Collapsing Rear suspension - Not a good day.

Spent the afternoon on my back under the car today. First thing off was the De Dion. When I was manhandling it down the other bottom link mount more or less came away. The drivers side elbow looked much more rusty than the one that actually sheared on the move. I also learnt two useful...

Collapsing Rear suspension - Not a good day.

Blimey. The rust pictures are staggering! And I just thought it was because I enjoy driving like a tit!.... I just missed the donor car on ebay today by £1 so I will be forking out for an elbow and a bottom link. I was hoping to recoup my losses by selling its leather interior which was...

Collapsing Rear suspension - Not a good day.

You`ve got to chuckle havent you! No one seems to have had a nasty accident as a result. I think God must like Rover drivers! I now seem to have committed myself to the rear half of the full suspension rebuild I had promised the car by buying all new bushes for the back end. I think Metal...
