    Fuel Tank Removal

Theres me thinking this would be a hefty job (car to mechanic, money, time, money etc), and I managed to get it done in an hour and a half today while the kids had their afternoon nap! Unscrewed straps holding tank down, took the arm off that leads up to fuel cap, wiggled a bit and the thing...

    Fuel Tank Removal

OK so Hammer and Drift should hopefully work. You say proper fittings, how exactly are the fuel lines connected at the sender end? Can they be prised off easily?

    Fuel Tank Removal

The fuel pipes look original, very discoloured and I assume they have jubilee clips on the end? If I can get these out (which may not be tooo hard) then I could attempt at the sender unit but I thought you need a specialist tool to unscrew it? Getting both hands under the car to do this will be...

    Fuel Tank Removal

Hi Guys, I think the fuel tank sender seal (bottom round seal beneath the fuel tank) is knackered as its all saturated in fuel and every time I used the the car there would be the alarming smell of fuel. I´ve bought some sender unit seals off Mark Gray (UK) so I think I have the right parts but...

Fuel line from tank to fuel pump and return lines under the

How about rubber vs PVC braided hoses (I think the ones on the car are PVC? They are definitely original from discoloration etc). Perhaps a good indicator of longevity?

Fuel line from tank to fuel pump and return lines under the

Ron, Cheers for that. I will ensure internal diameter remains the same for obvious reasons. I just assumed rubber hoses will be subject to the elements (not exactly heat, apart from gearbox perhaps? More like moisture, water, dirt etc from driving surface. Mine almost look just held under the...

Fuel line from tank to fuel pump and return lines under the

As the title suggest, I need to replace the tank seal and also noticed the fuel lines that run under the car are dangling and parts look like they are leaking slightly (Im sure standing still for 30 years didnt help). I am going to replace the fuel lines (I think there are 3? - one for main fuel...

Good spare parts from other cars for P6

OK, so a diff from a 2000 and the ZF 4 speed auto seems to be a very possible swap (Im all for straight swaps, I'm not too keen on huge modifications, especially as my gearbox/suspension knowledge is limited - for now!). Im not looking for distance trips, more like sunny drives through the...

Good spare parts from other cars for P6

So if the first 3 are the same as the stock 3 speed auto, there isnt any real gains (when I meant more torque I thought the ratios were different allowing for more pull through the gears etc). I would only opt for the 4 speed if the ratios were different which gave better acceleration. I'm not...

Good spare parts from other cars for P6

Rich is that a 4 speed auto instead of the 3 speed auto I have at the moment? Apart from the extra gear, does it give better torque/power through the ratios? Would I need to do any modifications to the car at all to take this gearbox? Cheers Andy

    widest tyres to fit 3500

Just had a quick look at the car (rear door etc). I understand now the issue, in fact the D post is an issue even with 205's in my view, possibly on the tight fit side! Trying to think out of the box (im sure this has all been said and done), but are there ways around fitting wider tyres? At...

Good spare parts from other cars for P6

Hi, Looking to start a resto project soon, and thinking about possible spare parts. I live in Portugal so prices aren't like the UK.... Are there parts that exist from other manufacturers/models that will bolt on to the P6 V8? Things like rear diff, auto gearbox (mine is 3 speed auto box...

    widest tyres to fit 3500

Well definitely an interesting topic i've opened!.. I think I'd be dedicated to fulfill the job and hopefully do a good job of it. My drawbacks are whether here in Portugal they will start questioning stuff at the inspection - in which case im screwed as most of the work seems irreversible...

    widest tyres to fit 3500

The second last pic is the one I originally posted. In terms of the rear open arch and flared arches, this is very cimilar to what I am looking for. Non of the other racing additions, just the arches. I don't want larger diameter wheels/tyres so overall diamete should remain pretty much the...

    widest tyres to fit 3500

Plus I want to do both. I want to open the rear arch to expose the wheel and I want to flare both front and rear. When I start the resto project I will post a topic here of all the work carried out, so it will probably be a 'learn as you go' project (in terms of panel changes anyway).

    widest tyres to fit 3500

Cheers, yes I have heard about the probs with the rear arches. I'm not looking to stick on wheel arches, I'm looking to get the side panels off and completely reshape them (with a spare set incase all goes pear shape). But yes the rear door arch seems to be a common problem. Hopefully once the...

    widest tyres to fit 3500

OK, lets say there is still room for more research then. I'm pretty hot at mechanics but to be honest anything suspension related and I'm def in unknown territory. Whats the differnece between open arches and flared arches?

    widest tyres to fit 3500

I'm definitely not going to larger rims. 15" and nice wide tyre walls is what I like. Proper old school. I'm purely looking at wider tyres, with the possibility of flared arches. I think when looking at the car from the front/rear, it looks too tall and needs to be pushed out sideways a bit...

    widest tyres to fit 3500

I found this ad here in Portugal, and the tyres on this one seem to be 225 (hard to read the markings on one of the pics). I think 205 is a nice size, gives the car more grip, they don't look skinny and I like the idea of deep wheel rims. http://vilafrancadexira.olx.pt/rover-35 ... -447267015

    widest tyres to fit 3500

OK well that may be a sign then. I don't ant to go very wide, but I had a Bimmer E30 323i with 205 tyres and I thought it looked pretty good. I just want to get all ideas together before I actually go ahead and get the car on the driveway and dismantle it! Cheers Andy

    widest tyres to fit 3500

Cheers for the info, I'm planning on a winter restoration, looking at all possibilities. What tyre size would you say this car has? http://www.ruediger-wicke.de/Fotos/Race ... /b1879.jpg Cheers Andy

    widest tyres to fit 3500

Evening! What are the widest tyres that would fit a standard Rover 3500? Im looking to widen the wheel arches but first would like to know what the maximum would be before changing anything? Are we looking at 195? 205? Or more? Cheers! Andy

Max rpm for 1st and second gear on Auto V8

Just to add to this, I've noticed since I bled the brakes (30 year old brake fluid required MANY brake compressions to get the gunk and air out...) the accelerator pedal is higher than the brake. Its a bit awkward as getting seat position right for both is a compromise. Should they be at around...

Max rpm for 1st and second gear on Auto V8

Sorry, yes, thats with the foot down to the floor. Thats good to know, when I put the engine together I did it all by intuition, but noticed first changed slightly sooner than second.

Max rpm for 1st and second gear on Auto V8

Evening, As the title suggests, I'm just curious about the max rpm reached in 1st and second? On my P6 (a second hand rebuild for a car stood for 30 years), it reaches about 4000 in first, and about 4800 in second before changing. Cheers Andy
