1976 2200TC

Hi all,

I don't want to do this, but my financial situation has just changed and I need to raise some cash, so reluctantly, I might have to let my Rover go.

She's a 1976 2200TC, in brazilia with a cream leather interior. The clock shows 38000 miles, and there's a note on the owner's book indicating a new speedo head at around 16000 miles, so somewhere around 54000 miles. There's MOT until 29/6/11, and tax until Dec. I don't have any service history from before I bought it, but there are several old MOTs and tax discs back to the late 70s along with brochures, workshop manual, and other period literature. I bought her as a non runner 3 1/2 months ago, with the intention of getting an MOT and using her as a daily driver. Since getting her through the MOT, I've been using her nearly every day and have done around 2000 miles so far.

So a brief description of the good and bad points.

Bodywork:

As far as I can tell, the base unit is rust free and has never been welded. There was no corrosion mentioned at the MOT. Only things I can find is a couple of places that need touching up on the underseal. The body panels are all very good, again with no serious rot. There are a couple of small dents on the rear wings, and most panels have some minor bubbling, but the metal behind seems sound. The paint is poor. It has flaked off in several places down to the primer, and is very flat. I have tried T-cutting a couple of panels, and it seems to come up OK, but it really wants a professional respray to make it A1. It could do with 4 window scraper rubbers too, and some bumper iron rubbers, but the rest of the rubber seems in good condition. The chrome is reasonable. There is some minor pitting, but it polishes up OK.

Mechanical bits:

The car drives very well. The engine has good oil pressure (75psi when hot), and it doesn't use much oil. I serviced it as part of the recommissioning, with new millers classic oil and a new filter. It's had new plugs, new leads, new rotor arm and cap, new contact breaker, and condensor. I've flushed the cooling system and replaced the leaking water hoses. The temp stays steady now, half way on the gauge, rising slightly when in traffic. The exhaust could do with replacing. It's been repaired poorly in the past, and I had to tape the badly welded joints to get it through the MOT. It would be best completely replaced, but it's not about to fall off. I was saving up for a new one. The clutch and gearbox, and diff all work as they should. The gearbox is slightly noisy in 1st 2nd and 3rd, but not excessively. There is a rattle from the gearbox linkage at certain cruising speeds. I have yet to get underneath and find where what's causing this. I rebuilt the rear brakes to get it through the MOT. The handbrake works as it should, and the calipers were refurbished with stainless sleeves by past parts. I fitted new pads on the back. The rear discs are good, there is some pitting on the front discs. I've fitted goodridge braided hoses all round. She pulls up promptly and in a straight line. She sits on 4 brand new uniroyal tyres that I had fitted for the MOT. The ride is smooth and comfortable, but the dampers are possibly a little tired. There's a clunk from the rear end over certain bumps that I have yet to identify. I suspect damper bushes.

Interior:

The interior is very good and has never been messed with. No extra holes or additional wiring. She has a cream box pleat leather interior. The leather could do with recolouring as the colour is worn on the seat bases, but there are no rips or tares and the connolising isn't worn or cracked. I've fed the seats with leather feed and they came up lovely and supple, but it could probably do with more as it was very dry when I got it. The rest of the interior is in good condition with just a few minor marks that will probably clean off, with the exception of a crack on the centre console by the handbrake, and a split hand brake gaiter. With a bit of work and a good clean, I think this could be condition 1.

Electrics:

Everything works with the exception of a couple of bits I will list below. I've replaced the sealed beam headlamps with modern bowls that take replaceable halogen bulbs. The headlights are now excellent. Only bits that don't work are the reversing lights, and sometimes the clock fails to rewind it'self. It has a period motorolla tape stereo. The sound quality isn't great, and I can't get good reception on of FM, but MW and LW and the tape player work great. The lense for the interior light has yellowed. The intermittent function on the wipers doesn't always work. I haven't had time to rebuild this yet, but I don't think it needs much as some of the time it works fine.

I think that covers everything, but if there's anything I've missed or you want a photo of a specific part, then please ask. Viewing is advised as everyone's opinion of condition is different. I'm looking for £1500, but am open to offers. It's not advertised anywhere else yet, I thought I'd give the guys on here a shout first.

I will add more photos tomorrow, but it's too dark to take anything tonight.

Thanks,

Tom
